in 2008 the Sox will have 70-75 mill owed to 7 players. Buehrle, Iguchi and Dye can become free agents. Crede and Cintron are arb. eligible, so is Podsednik and he'll probably be gone so they'll need a new lead-off hitter. The Sox can't afford Buehrle.

I'm sure one of the things that makes Red Sox fans irritating is the inferiority they may feel as a city when compared to that of New York. The same thing applies to Cardinals fans and the inferiority they feel as a city to Chicago. While Chicago may feel an inferiority to New York as a city, the sports rivalry isn't as strong because we're not in the same division.

Guys, Guys, Guys, you're both wrong. The most intolerable fans in all of baseball, (possibly in all of American sports) are... Red Sox fans. Pretty much for the accent alone. Sure, they exhibit the same annoying tendencies White Sox fans have (obsession with a rival team, refusing to let you forget a recent championship, rewarding "idiotic" behavior) but Boston just amplifies it about 100 times over.

Matty...Sox fans aren't untolerable? C'mon. I'll agree that Cubs, Yankees and Cardinals fans are too but you've got to include Sox fans in there as well. Any fan base that is passionate about their team, passionate enough to travel outside of their city to see their team play in large numbers is going to be considered irritating to other fans.

When it comes to the St. Louis Cardinals, how does that Klingon phrase go? "The enemy of my enemy is my friend"? Seriously, though, this was nice. Just the sort of thing to give them a spark through April and get going into the bulk of the season.

Mark Buehrle won't be with the Sox next year. The cards will sign him to a 3 year deal which he'll take because he's always wanted to play for the team he grew up rooting for. The Sox can't afford to keep him.

I think we can all agree that Chicago pitchers need to stop making claims that they're going to win the Cy Young...didn't buehrle do it last year? As much as I hate Mark Buehrle for being a two-faced bastard, beady-eyed, inbred hick Cardinals fan, I can't hate on a no-no, they're just sweet. Zambrano had an awful April last year too but I can't figure out why. Considering the Cubs don't have any other options for the staff ace they really have no choice but to give in to Zambrano's demands. I don't know who's on the FA market next year but I'd like to see Z locked up for a few years anyway.

I'm not ready to pronounce Buehrle's pitching woes "over" based upon one outing, although I hope he keeps it up all season. If that guarantees his exit from the team, so be it. For THIS season, I'll take the 20 wins, or whatever he can put together to be considered dominant. I begrudgingly accept Jefferson's POV but wonder how the future of Zambrano is suddenly a guarantee. Further, he (Zambrano) looks more and more like a ? from a reliability standpoint, every day. While not a Cubs fan, I'm not sure I'd want him on the north side for the loot he's after. Let him deliver on his Cy Young promise first.

It is natural for a fan of a rival team to feel envy and jealousy when the team he or she rails against does head and shoulders above what can be expected of the team he or she supports. On a side note it is always nice to see a cub fan that actually knows a stat, so jefferson has that going for him which is good.

If NSH knew any thing, he'd know that the Cubs haven't been no-hit since Sandy Koufax was pitching for the Dodgers...of course they haven't pitched a no-hitter since Pappas. Zambrano will be on the team next year and maybe even for cheaper than we thought if he keeps pitching the way he does. My point about Buehrle is that your boy never misses a chance to hang out with his future team, even though he's still on the White Sox. That really pisses me off and I'm not even a White Sox fan.

jefferson brings up a good point that players switch teams in baseball. Buehrle in the NL Central... Gee I wonder how many no hitters he will throw when he faces the scrubs on a monthly basis.
