Just when we thought we were out of the bad place with “30 Rock”, the worries start anew.
Alec Baldwin told “The View” ladies in a pre-taped interview that airs today, that he wants off the newly renewed show. NO! WAIT! ALEC! We know you yelled at your daughter and you’re going through a messy custody battle, but please, we need you. We know you quit your talent agency Creative Artists, but please don’t quit the best thing that’s happened to you or us.
In a statement from NBC, they said “We look forward to having him continue in the role”. NBC knows to lose Baldwin would be a hard hit for “30 Rock”. We think Chicago improviser Tina Fey could handle it and find someone to replace Baldwin, but “30 Rock” just wouldn't be the same without him.

I think Baldwin's great in the role, but if he needs to get right with his kids, I can respect that. The show is so good, I'm confident they can work it out. The way it ended last night, with Donaghy expressing his confidence in Lemon's work, totally sets them up for a change next season- just when Liz feels comfortable with her boss, the network brings in someone new. My vote: Will Arnett, in all his short robe glory.
I only watch a couple of shows, 30 Rock is my favorite right now. And what he said to his daughter was in poor taste, but nearly every parent I know has lost it with their kids. It just has not been recorded and then sent to the media.
I think I maybe one of the few who just don't get the appeal of this show. I really wanted to like it too. I love Tina Fey and Tracy Morgan, think the blonde is quite hot (and she's a Jersey chick), but where is the funny? Baldwin is doing what seems to be a bad Trump impression and the jokes just seem so forced.
Aw, man, this sucks! I'm a huge fan of this show and Baldwin is easily the best thing about it.
Sure, what he said was bad, but how many out there have had their parents say something much worse to you? Or maybe something you've said and regret to your kids? I just smell a potential custody turf war between him and Kim Bassinger, or even him getting upset at what could be the beginning of well-trod behavior with other rich children of celebrities (Paris Hilton? Nicole Richie? "The Sons of Hollywood"?)
I just think we don't know everything there is to know about that voice mail. Nor is it our business to know.
It'll be sad to see him go but I find Tracey Morgan just as funny and I think the show will still be very good without him. If they did in fact replace him with Will Arnett, it would become my dream show. But his character on that episode as pretty one-note -- they're really have to work to improve him.
Actually that episode was the first in which I really appreciated the page (whats his name). Maybe he could take over Jack's position for a week or two via some odd screw-up and then get ousted by Arnett.
Anyone else think last night's show was awful?
@Amanda:
I know one of the writers from this show (she's married to the guy that plays "Floyd"). I'm totally going to forward that...
@Amanda,
The guy who plays the page, is Jack McBrayer an old friend and awesome guy. I did an interview with him awhile back!
He rules.
I find it hard to believe my comment on father's rights was edited.
anyway, in more constrained terms...I think it is unfair that a dad can't discipline his son or daughter in this day and age without having to be apologetic about it. alec baldwin should have stuck to his guns.
sad day for dads.
I've gotten it 100X worse than Baldwin's little princess and I think I am in line to turn out to be a little bit better person than she is, at least if Bassinger has her way. Don't get me wrong, Baldwin is a pyscho but, Bassinger had no business airing the dirty laundry the way she did, just as Baldwin had no business saying the things he had on places like Larry King.
Having said that, Alec Baldwin makes this show. This show and recent roles like the Departed have made him great again. He seemed like he was on the rise again, and it was nice to see. But, there is no way in hell this show could go on without him. He is 70% of the reason it worked and they'll be hard-pressed to find someone to do even 50% of what he's done this year. It's like trying to replace Phil Hartman on Talk Radio, even if it was somebody as goofy and fun as Lovitz.
Also, is it just me, or does every SNL he hosts suddenly turns into appointment viewing?
The Mount Rushmore of SNL hosts are him, Steve Martin, Christopher Walken, and Tom Hanks.
Have you seen our comment on this whole affair? Ask the rabbits, kids.

Alec has been in the biz too long to simply hold the network up for more money. (Think of how Jack Donaghy would react to this sort of gambit.) Once Baldwingate blows over, he'll settle down and be back (he said, hopefully).
