Whaaa? There's a lot of Thai food to explore in Chicago. And not all mom-and-pop joints are created equal!

Having bragged to Thai friends after one of my visits to Arun's (two of whom, it turned out, had worked under him) I was promptly set straight. You don't have to pawn your diamonds for excellent, or even well-presented, Thai food.

Because I love Chicagoist, I'll give away my top 4: TAC Quick, Spoon, Dharma Garden, Sticky Rice.

Check out Erik M.'s postings on LTHforum.

Although his site of translated Thai-language menus is no longer up and he's keeping a lower profile, his postings are great.

Admittedly, these aren't fancy. (For fancy, I think Le Lan beats Arun's. Arun only consulted, and it's not really Thai, but still...)

Look forward to trying Sura Thai.

Unless someone else is paying, skip Arun's and go to TAC Quick. Great food, nicely presented, cheap, and byob.

Other than Arun's, is there anywhere to get fancy Thai food in Chicago?

Arun's is mind-blowingly yummy and exciting, by the way.
