It was, VERY unfortunately, filmed in good ol' Toronto and Hamilton, Ontario, which just sucks for any Chicagoan who read that book. The city plays suck a role in that book. Kopi on Clark. The house on Ainslie and the two-flat on Virginia backing up to the river. And Berlin! It's really really terrible that they didn't film it here.

I only discovered Time Travellers Wife a few months ago but in that time I have read it no less than 7/8 times and I could read it a few more times. This was a great interview. I just hope that the movie doesn't butcher the real themes and essence of the story line and characters. Beautiful book I could read over and over again!!!!

Holy crap, this was a joy to read. If the moment where you ask her about the Stooges record was a woman, I would desperately want to make out with her. Interviews that enlighten through the art of conversation are far too rare.

Nice interview. Keep up the good author interviews if you can, as you do them well. I swear, I can't visit any airport in the USA or Europe without seeing that book in a front display. I might one of the few people in Chicago who've read neither this book nor "Devil in a White City," but this author apparently has reached a lot of readers, and that's some work.

Claire - please do! Karl - Great interview! I read The Time Traveler's wife a few years ago while on vacation in Hawaii. I never read up on Ms. Niffenegger or anything else about the book.. it's nice to get some background on it. . Esp since it's going to be a movie now.
