"...shows for three days only at the Music Box this weekend." Not quite -- the full multimedia extravaganza will screen four times this weekend, but the version with a prerecorded soundtrack will also screen this weekend and continue into next week. "...his newest film sounds more overtly autobiographical than previous outings, despite the usual bizarre trappings." Maddin has described "Brand" as a companion piece to his previous feature-length film, "Cowards Bend the Knee", which had those overtly autobiographical elements (and IMO is his best work). Maddin certainly is a unique director, but that's not always good. I liked Careful and Cowards Bend the Knee enormously, but have been bored or simply appalled at several of his other movies. I can't decide whether I want to take a chance on this one, but having walked out on Crispin Glover's slide show earlier this year, I might just take a pass.
