I like Mike Madigan a lot more, all of a sudden.
Hey cabbies, here's an idea: Instead of buying your boat-lengthed gas-guzzling shit boxes, why don't you buy a Prius for the same price?
It's time the cabbies stopped driving V-8 barges and got smaller 4 or 6-cylinder cars. They would give themselves an instant raise and no one would notice a difference.
OK--so let's say that gas is up %33 this year over last (a most generous assumption for this exercise, to be sure)...
If it now costs a cabbie $50 to fill up each day, we can assume he was paying around $36 last year. And now they want a $1 temporary fuel surcharge AND a permanent 20-25% fare increase? My ass--they would make out like bandits on this one, and it's not like they would scale fares back when/if gas prices were ever to come back down...
I take cabs for convenience and expediency (i.e. to and from watering holes), but I'll have no problem giving them the big "F-U" and relying even more heavily on public transportation than I already do...

Why don't the cabbies drive better cars, then perhaps they wouldn't care as much about the price of gas. Oh, and that increase isn't in line with the price of gas in my opinion.
Yes, I take taxis occasionally, usually when I go to the grocery store and stock up on food or when I have a lot of bags and don't feel like torturing everyone else on the 'el' by banging them with 'em while I ride home.

Just ignore him. Anything he doesn't like he labels "gangster" and writes some rambling incoherent sentences as to why he's so smart and everyone is dumb. But he's really some chubby white kid out in the suburbs. It's complicated.
And if taxis downgrade to smaller engines how will they attempt to mow me down taking a corner at high speed every week?
