"The book The Gangs of Chicago by Herbert Asbury"

Which by the way is a modern title (designed to cash in on The Gangs of New York); look for it in used bookstores as Gem of the Prairie. It is a lot of fun to read; Asbury, incidentally, was a black sheep of the very respectable Methodist family that included the bishop for whom Asbury street in Evanston is named.

JP-The book The Gangs of Chicago by Herbert Asbury has that bordello map, as well as all sorts of interesting information about the seedy unerbelly of Chicago. It's a really good read.

Ahhh, the Everleigh Club...

Sultan of Brunei, greeted by the press upon arriving in America and asked what he was going to do here:
Why go to the Everleigh Club of course. Know where it was by chance?

I'm a homeowner in the area, and once saw an interesting hand-drawn map of what once was there. A building-by-building map of bordellos, gambling and heroin dens, and various other markers of the original Vice City in America.

And while your mind is in the neigbhorhood, care to point your readers to the location of the Wigwam, so they'll know what once was where they walk?
