I thought the Japanese and Koreans hated each other.

My wife and I just ate there last month and we loved it. She is Japanese and this is a "yaki niku" restaurant. That litteraly means "grilled meat". Most of our wait staff was Japanese and were incredibly nice. So much so that you can do the Japanese trick of saying "sumimasen" (excuse me) in order to get a waiters attention. This comes in handy since you're somewhat isolated if you're in a booth towards the back. They all giggled when I spoke (or rather, tried to speak) Japanese.

We ordered a combination meal which was plenty of food for 2 people and was around $35. It's a really great deal, honestly. They have fantastic squid and tongue. Their red bean and also mango ice cream is excellent. ^_^

Misspellings are somewhat common on Korean menus, so it was probably Doeji-gui or pronounced deh-jee goo-ee. That's the spicy marinated pork. Korean bbq is definitely one of the most popular "gateway" Korean foods out there. Most non-Koreans enjoy trying Korean bbq. Some people complain about how they go out so they don't have to cook, but it's still a fun experience, even though your clothes stink afterwards.

it's not a 'gimmick'. it's a traditional way of preparing food - not a marketing ploy to get Westerners to eat Korean food.
