ReViewed: The Faint at Metro 5/22

Tuesday night at Metro, The Faint attempted to answer the question, "What the hell have you guys been doing for the past three years?" With no new album to promote, they gave an hour and a half of non-stop greatest hits and debuted a couple of new songs. The new material was not as well received, as it was more stripped down, emotional and of the type of sound one would expect from a band on the Saddle Creek label. Even so, the surprisingly young crowd bounced and sweated and pumped their fists for the entire set, and although songs from The Faint's most popular album, Danse Macabre, seemed to be favored, songs such as "Worked Up So Sexual" from 1999's Blank Wave Arcade were still received with fits of full-body freak out dancing.

Part of the hype behind The Faint is their live performance, and the show didn't disappoint. The giant collage film strips, the strobe lights, the constant motion around stage from almost every band member ... it was all there, and the crowd ate it up. Frankly, after hearing the songs they're working on for the new album, we'd be perfectly satisfied if the band kept touring with their old material, and we don't think we're alone with that thought.

More photos from the show after the jump.

I saw the Faint in Paris 2 years ago, and I echo the sentiment that they are awesome live. But the best parts were when older material was performed. The Wet From Birth Stuff doesn't hold up to Danse Macabre and Blank Wave.

Anyone want to divulge how The Berg Sans Nipple were? Being a mostly-instrumental two-piece, I'm curious how they well they handled the Metro's sound system.

I'm sorry I missed this. I've only seen the Faint once at the Fireside, and would LOVE to see them again. I could have used some booty shaking... though I have a feeling I would have been one of the oldest people in the room. ha.

I'm from Omaha, the Faint's home town....they rock! Killer music, great show and they'll have a new record out next year. If you see a new show, they'll have 3 or 4 of new songs in all probability. I was fortunate to see them at a private show, at a small bar, as a 'warm-up' for their last tour late fall. It was incredible, and the sound was perfect. I understand they head out immediately for another short tour. By all means, & do yourself the favor, take the time and make the effort to see a show, they just keep getting better. And by the way, at 52, I bet I have you beat as the oldest fan at their shows......
