With all the news and hype around cicadas now, (and I remember the news 17 years ago), I find myself wondering what this area must've been like before Europeans arrived. How amazing it must have been to live on the shores of untouched Lake Michigan, and know that you had lived long enough to see the cicadas come back again.
Most of the city was a swamp them. I doubt it wouldn't have been as impressive, but much more stinky, than you hope.
