Girls Are Like Boys Who Are Like Girls Who Are Like Boys

norman2.jpgFrom "The Mommy Wars" to our favorite sports commentator being a lady, it doesn't take much to see that the roles of women change dramatically every few milliseconds. And although statistics show a woman is still paid less for the same job in America, researchers at the University of Illinois remind you that, regardless of pay, she is still doing the job. Years ago "they" wouldn't have let her.

Well, not really. What researchers in the sociology department at the school are actually studying is "gender convergence." They pored over census info, they surveyed and interviewed families, and what they found was women are becoming more like men and men are becoming more like women. (Not like this.) (Only rarely like this.) (This is about right.)

We suppose it'd be nice to know some possible reasons why the gender melding is taking place, but we certainly aren't shocked by the idea of it. Women and men have been sharing roles more and more, from parenting responsibilities to life goals and aspirations. And why the hell not? We're not one of those people who miss the simple, good old days of Norman Rockwell and twin beds. Did that ideal ever even exist?
