I agree. Listen to all the bands and give your votes to those truly deserving of this honor - the ones with the most TALENT. These bands have got my vote:

B C.
lo/fi Pioneer
Nine Fifty

Thanks for writing this article, I couldn't agree more with you and the fact that I found the article link on Rachel Metter's facebook group w/ 700+ members makes it all the more ironic.

I play in a band called Morning State check us out if you have a second, we try to make good music.

myspace.com/morningstate

Playing the Slot at 11:30? who cares! we just want to play.

Check us out if you can...

I'm all for any band to make it to Lollapalooza, but when they go on at 11:30 a.m. I'll probably be sleeping!

I advise everyone to do exactly as Chicagoist suggests - listen to the top 100 bands.

You will be amazed at the number of bands who sound like they'd be better off in 1994, jerking themselves to the latest Stone Temple Pilots and trying to sing like 90s era alterna-jock-rock.

There are some good bands in there, but most are people with gigantic fan bases simply because the fans don't know there's something better out there - even the sound of a car crash is more interesting than some of the absolute crap in the current top 25.

Leave it to Chicagoist to pooh-pooh this apparently harmless opportunity for local bands to try and make their way in the industry.
