Dear racist asshole,

Clout doesn't get anyone into either the police or fire academies and believe me, I know some people who have some serious clout, like, commissioners, Mayors, et al. It just goes to show your ignorance and your own unwillingness to love the color of your skin.

One of these days, you'll realize that you can't change your skin color unless you're Michael Jackson. Then again, he's not doing such a great job with it.

By the way, I do not drink Bud solely because of the Jesses and my grandfather and his brothers were Hamburgs. What do you have to say to that?

Woodlawnchuck

Do you really think that the C.FD. application has been and still is “clout blind”? Are you telling me that for years it hasn't been packed with friends, family and related foot soldiers of wards like 19, 23, etc 49, etc?

And these whites who you know who got bumped because of all those none qualified Coloreds, did they get back rejection letters saying “so sorry, Mr. O’ Brien, but because all those unqualified Negro’s who applied, you just aren’t gonna get the job, even though you’re supper qualified. Here, let me break it down for you Mr. O’Brien, these are the white people that got knocked off because of the Negros. See their great test scores! These are the only two Negros that are actually qualified. But look at these other 700 that applied who can’t even tie their shoes, let alone climb a latter of slide down a poll, but because they are Black, they got accepted. And finally Mr. O’ Brien rest assured that you certainly didn’t get bumped by any unqualified white boys with lots of clout, it was the damn Negros!

And just how many predominately Black Fire houses are there? I suspect that there are not many even in all Black neighborhoods. And what is the racial break down of the fire department? It’s still heavily segregated, but I’m sure all those white fireman are not clouted, but qualified. The problem with discussions of race in this county is that they center around the frivolous and the spurious instead of grappling with the real issues.

And shame on you for equally connecting Jesse Jackson, and his incarcerated killer Brother Noah Robinson with the Blackstone Rangers.
I have a certain respect for The Black Stone Rangers. Some what similar to the Haumburg Street Gang run by the Late Mayor Daley that started the Chicago Race Riots of 1918. The Black Stone Rangers originally formed with poor youths coming together out of a sense of identity. The deference was that far less educational and social opportunities were availed to them, hence they became a bigger gang. What’s interesting between Black and white gangs is that white gangs end up merging into mainstream local and National politics i.e. Daley and Kennedy. Black gangs are allowed to flourish, until they become political. As none political gangs they destabilize neighborhoods until they are ready for gentrification, keep law abiding residents dependent and in fear instead of becoming political, while funding endless expensive liberal academic studies- that merely gather dust- and help attract vast sums of government funds that go into the pockets of corrupt political politicians and political hustler who call themselves ministers. This includes the Chicago Democratic Machine and it’s under cover allies such as the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Finally WoodlawnChuck, remember, Up with Hope Down with Dope! And if you drink a budwiser on the Northside, your money is going into Jesse's kids pocket, so Keep Hope Alive!

Hank, this is years and years ago. It's how Jesse got his start and turned his not-for-profit organizations into for-Jesse's-profit ventures for he and his friends. Sue me on the misssssspelling of a word.

Josiah, there is an age for the fire and police that I want to say is 40. I'm not sure, you'll have to look it up. I agree with that, as the jobs are physical and require able-bodied people. But the point is that age is a protected class.

And for the record, in these police brutality cases, I'm reminded of the blacks who claim they're pulled over in, say, their neighborhood. Chicago is obviously segregated and people generally stay within the confines of their own neighborhoods. So if a neighborhood is 98% black, white, Hispanic, Asian - whatever - wouldn't the majority of people being pulled over be of a race, particularly if they are driving-while-not-obeying the law? I should think so.

Couple that with the fact that in many of these suits, black cops were party to the beatings that went down and the whole conversation is moot. And no, I'm not talking about the days of the 70s and 80s when Burge had a team of white yokels as enforcers. I'm talking about these days, where the force is pretty well integrated.

I'm also reminded of something pretty ridiculous as well: La Tanya Haggerty and that player from Northwestern. In one of the cases, there was a cell phone involved. Police pulled over somebody, said "put your hands up." They reached for something: a cell. Where I come from, you drop whatever you're holding and put your hands up when the police tell you to do so, not lead them on an 11 mile chase. In both cases, blacks police were involved. In Haggerty's case, she had Johnny Cochran come in and claim racism, force the City to settle for $17.2 Million and name a park after her. For what?

These bar beatings shouldn't be police matters either. They happened with off-duty cops. They should be civil suits filed against them personally. I still have my doubts about the South Loop thing as well.

Those government coiffeurs (coiffures?) deserve to be looted, considering how horribly out of style and full of split ends they are, especially Blago's.

spook -
Of course police brutality is only receiving attention in Chicago now that white Chicagoans are receiving attention as its victims. But black Chicagoans would be foolish to ignore this opportunity for police oversight reform. While racist priorities might be driving the current effort, it seems to me that all victims of CPD brutality stand to benefit. And I expect that we agree that those victims are disproportionately black.

Do you know for a fact that the CFD imposes a maximum age limit? What is it?

Spook,

Being the genius that I am, I'm reminded of an exchange from the Jerky Boys:

Jerky Boy: Sue you.

Doctor: Sue me?

Jerky Boy: Sue everybody!

So here I am saying, why don't we just sue everybody!?!

Having the name that you have, you're obviously quite defensive about your race. At least, that's how it reads. Then again, that would be an assumption on my part, and that's not something I'm going to do at this juncture. Obviously, my whole point went over your head, so I'll explain what I am getting at.

The fire department had a test in 1995. It took them ten whole years to work through that list of qualified applicants. Did they get through it? No. In fact, I know quite a few people who were never called because of the fact that they were shuffled to the back of the line because of their race. In many cases, there were even people who were not called because they were over a certain age. I'm of the belief that if you're not qualified, no matter what your race, you shouldn't be able to become a fireman. I think it's ridiculous that anyone should have a claim to file if, say, they were not up to the job physically. This includes age. But technically, age is as much of a protected class as is race. Do you get my point here Spook?

I have stated on this board before that the Fire Department has its problems with race. It's more along the lines of the firemen themselves, and not in the actual hiring. It's also something that cuts both ways. You know any white boys in predominantly black firehouses? I do. They say they're treated differently by SOME of their colleagues. The only reason I say this, of course, is to prove a point: it goes on everywhere. I didn't even mention that in my last post, but you inferred it. Again, there you go with that thing about assuming everyone is out to get you, Spook, ASSUMING OF COURSE that you are indeed black.

Lastly, you aim at stirring the pot with me about Woodlawn with your little P.S. That's fine. But what are these "good old days of Woodlawn?" What is your point of reference? Does it have something to do with you HEARING someone else speak of the Studs Lonigan trilogy? I'm just wondering. Because I know of some good old days in Woodlawn where a man named Jesse Jackson helped front an organization, call it the Woodlawn Organization, with his half-brother, Noah Robinson, and a sleu of Blackstone Rangers. They basically set up the aforementioned organization and used it to divert government funds to their own pockets. Of course, you have selective memory on that one. Yes, of course you only elude to some other half-baked truths based on the fictitious scrawlings of James Farrell, instead of reading up on the fact that Jesse Jackson, Noah Robinson and Jeff Fort set up bogus organizations to loot the government coiffeurs in the name of helping minorities thrive. In Woodlawn.

Keep on assuming and have a nice day.

Rossy old boy old chum, you are assuming way way too much. Such as that Darthy Daley has to do any thing, but keep up the Façade of the Midwest Disney Land by the Lake, while clearing the neighborhoods of undesirables, and the current police for places a major roll in this

Hey Woodlawnchuck!
May I submit your name for the MacArthur
Genius Grant? You are so right, the Chicago fire department was complete none racist/ biased with no history of discrimination. Yep it worked just fine until those unqualified Negros showed up wanting something that they didn’t deserve.

p.s I bet you miss the good old days of Woodlawn, don't cha?

That lawsuit by the black firefighters is ridiculous. It doesn't even belong in court. The whole reason it took them 10 years to work their way through the hiring list was because of the affirmative action bend to the whole thing. If they want to allow the black firefighters a shot in court, they are opening themselves up to the white firefighters who didn't get a shot because time just expired on them. Or how about the people who were qualified, but never got called because they were over the age of what the Fire Department will accept. That one bends racial lines.

All I can say is Daley has his work cut out for him. I wonder if he will find this term so much fun? I wonder if he will wish he would have retired? Smart people know when to retire and call it quits.

ya know, I could deal with police brutality when Chicago's finest were just beating and kicking the crap outta those Blacks and sending them to death row under false charges. Then they assaulted a pure blond women of Nordic heritage! Now they've gone after white male businesses men! Too much! I think the Chicago Chamber of Commerce and The Union League Club needs to get involved!
