Don't y'all realize that city living is all about the bars you do and don't frequent, the kinds of food you eat, the beers you consume (and the ones upon which you look down) and the bands you follow (and the ones you loathe), and all the other related crap that defines an overly blessed consumerist society? I mean, without such indicators of morality and worth, how would RedEye survive? It's all similar to 8th grade, except with booze and credit cards and a better shot of getting laid at the end of the night. (Well, I guess some of us had the booze back then ... )

Let me get this straight. 30 year old something people are trying to pay tribute to a bar, but since it is an area they think is too commercial, they have to insult it instead so other anon's on this blog think they are still hip and cool? This was a big thing for me in middle school too. Once I became an adult though I stopped caring and just went to places I liked. If someone thinks I'm not Mr. Hip Urban Coolguy for going to a certain restaurant or neighborhood, so be it.

one time i went to tavern on rush and didn't understand why there were so many 80's style super busty 50 year old women...then it occured to me that these women were PROSTITUTES! Rush street has hipster street cred for that reason alone.

I've never been there, but I have been to the place next door. I think it is called Cactus. While that area isn't my normal hang-out, I loved people watching there. Drinking margaritas the size of a small baby didn;t hurt either. Is that place closing too?

Guest recommends that Chicagoist consider anything possibly yuppy-related "innocent until proven guilty". While guest has only been to Melvin B's a few times over the years, we enjoyed ourselves about as much as you would at any other run-of-the-mill bar with a nice patio. Relax, Chicagoist -- it's only a bar. There are far more insidious things you can flip off in our great city.
