Focus, People, Focus

Check out the gorgeous bokeh in this shot by abmarfia. The darkening sky mixed with the primary colors of the lights of the cars and street remind us of balmy summer evenings and long drives home.

We're always intrigued to see which of our friends are car lovers, and which vehemently oppose any gas-guzzling apparatus. What about you, Chicagoist readers? How many of you put the pedal to the metal on a regular basis? Is it a matter of neccessity, or can you just not give up those drives with the wind blowing through your hair?

Focus, People, Focus is a weekly photography feature that features a photograph taken by a reader of the site. If you'd like a chance to have your photo featured on Friday as part of Focus, People, Focus, upload your photo to Flickr and tag it with "Chicagoist".

If you want a drive with the wind blowing through your hair... ride a bike.

Yeah, I'm going to have to agree with that. I drive because my job as a reporter requires me to have a car, but I bike whenever I can.

I don't have a car, and have resisted two (2!) free cars from my friends and family. I don't want to deal with the hassle or the expense, since I don't have to. I work in Des Plaines, and my commute is 50 minutes each way, but that's a combination of walking and riding the train (reading) -- both of which I'd rather do than sit in traffic.

You can't beat cruising down LSD in a Yukon with the windows rolled down.

I have a car because I make monthly trips to see my kids 300 miles away. Otherwise, I'd gladly give up the hassle of the thing. I hate driving in the city, where it takes about two hours to move six miles. My bike gets me to the Loop from my Logan Square home in about 20 minutes.

If I were to purchase a vehicle, this would be on top of my list: http://www.smartusa.com/
