This week, we're going event-specific and focusing on Taste of Chicago.
We know it's a polarizing event, what with the music, bargains, lack of chef star power, all that overeating, and the crowds. We're praying that no one abandons their kids there this year, no matter how enticing the thought.
But it's a popular event, and folks want some recommendations on where to visit. to that end, our own Amelia Levin came up with a list of vendors to hit up this year, with their offerings. Some are old. Some are new. Some probably borrowed to participate in the Taste. At least one is Blu.
Thanks, Amelia, for putting this together.
Must tries and new guys:
Deleece: Grilled chicken sandwich with tomato, smoked mozzarella and pesto mayo; grilled chicken Caesar salad; sweet potato salad; chocolate ganache with fresh strawberries

Stroger Makes Hollywood Play

yucky. The Taste sucks.
My fellow haters, join me in Milwaukee!
Summerfest baby, yeah!
www (dot) summerfest (dot) com
Excellent picks! i'll be printing this out and taking it with me. This Amelia girl knows her stuff.
Yeah, guest #2, we like Amelia around these parts, as well.
People who don't like The Taste are stupid. I know it's crowded, I know it's a little pricey but it brings tourists into this city and tourists mean more money for the city. Summerfest has the music but the food is nothing to write home about. Culver's? Wendy's? C'mon!
Why Potbelly's? Cuz it's new?
Guest loves Potbelly! Good sammiches for a great price, and the cookies are delish. In terms of fast food, it's #1 in our book.
The potbelly's was mentioned as a new item, not a must try.
That's all I want is to walk into some sweaty heavyset person with a giant turkey leg. !!
The word chicken and tart in the same sentence have me intrigued though.
OK, I'm declaring shenanigans! I just looked up the Summerfest line-up, only to see a lot of the same bands playing!
There were some cool bands playing there, but there were also some that made John Mayer look hard-core (REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, All Four Original Members of Asia, anyone?)
I think I'll stick with the Taste.
"People who don't like The Taste are stupid."
Ahhhhhh no, actually people who like/attend the Taste have over all i.q's that hover around the 15 point range. People who don't like the Taste live in the city, are not associated with street gangs and tend to have academic degrees not related to truck driving and air conditioner repair. Just because the Taste serves as a mating ritual for the above- Street Gang members and those who live in places like Wheeling, Lombard, Hammond, Gary ,etc,- doesn't mean we have to go. Sure its o.k that they spend money in Chicago but the continuation of their gene pool does irreconcilable harm to society as a whole.
But enjoy your McDonalds and exotic Turkey leg.
Spook: I hold a degree in truck driving with a minor in air conditioner repair.
I also have lived in both Hammond and Gary. I like the people that live there. I wish they would continue their gene pool here on the north side of Chicago. That would actually be quite cool.
