The Ponys will be interesting when they figure out how to sing during a chorus, or, well, actually have a chorus. When I saw them at the Looptopia, it was my first time to see them, and the first six songs they played were all devoid of a chorus. I didn't think that verse, then verse w/lyrics, then verse, then verse w/lyrics, then verse, then verse w/lyrics was really intersting for more than one song.

Wishful thinking perhaps? I'm no fan of what O'Rourke did with Wilco, but I do like his solo work and his contributions to Sonic Youth, since I think they are pretty simpatico aesthetically.

We're not totally opposite, I'll be trying to take in some Oxford Collapse, Dan Deacon, and Cat Power too. You get Yoko all to yourself though.

Your Saturday is the exact opposite of mine! looking forward to: 5:00 Iron and Wine - aluminum stage 6:15 Oxford Collapse - balance stage 7:15 Dan Deacon - balance stage 8:00 Cat Power and Dirty Delta Blues - connector stage 9:00 Yoko Ono (with special guests) - aluminum stage I never thought I'd admit this, but I have listened to the new Yoko Ono release quite a bit lately.

If you get there early on Saturday, be sure to check out the Twilight Sad. They're my underdog pick of the fest. I'm not sure where I'd categorize it (Rhapsody says their influences are Joy Division & The Wedding Present...I dunno), but their new record is just great, especially if you're a sucker for a Scottish brogue.

My big bad for the Ghostface thing. I knew it was GZA but something in my mind wandered. Muchos apologies, sincerely. As for Neko, I was told she was performing, but I'm following up on that right now and will retract if she's not. As for The Ponys, I admit the first time I saw them I was really underwhelmed, and most of the band are old acquaintances I'd known for years and wanted to succeed. However in the last few years they've really come into their own and made something unique and compelling out of a musical trope I had thought was exhausted.

I can see them mixing up Ghostface with the GZA. After all, they all look alike, right? Seriously though, making Yoko the headlining act was without a doubt the dumbest move Pfork made this year. Girl Talk's stage will be mighty crowded Saturday night.

How small minded of you to assume that just because "liquid swords" was a GZA record that they would have gotten him to perform it. We all know our good friends at Chicagoist never completely fuck up basic facts...right? Also, why in the hell is this town so enamored with the Ponys? Theoretically I should love their music, since I'm a big fan of the bands they ape. But live they always strike me as a sloppy mess, and their record was a snoozer.
