Between Jeanne Zelasko, Kevin Kennedy, Tim McCarver, the miked bases and all the other bells and whistles, we try to forget Fox broadcasts Major League Basebell. But when we're tipped to a clip like this, we need to share it.
Via Best Week Ever, here is Cubs pitcher Rich Hill announcing the starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Astros. Not content to just run through the lineup, Hill gets his natural clown on and announces the lineup as "Kip" from Napoleon Dynamite. It would have been more topical three years ago, when the movie was fresh, but to hear Hill, as Kip, call Cliff Floyd a "strong man" and say that Mark DeRosa is training to be a cagefighter makes it all worth it. The icing on this video cake is the lack of recognition by the announcers afterward.
Say what you wish about Len and Bob, but Kasper would have been all over that if this were on WGN.

Friday Afternoon Diversion

It was really weird that the announcers said nothing but Dick Stockton is ancient and probably thinks Rich Hill talks like that. As for Girardi...he seems like a very serious baseball guy.
They usually don't say anything about the line-ups - Dempster has done hilarious ones before giving everyone nicknames - can't remember if he did his Harry Caray impersonation - kinda think so.
Dempster did a bad/funny Harry impersonation a while back.
Actually, Len & Bob did make mention of it during Sunday's game.
Yes, Stockton and Girardi's non-comment afterwards was priceless. It made the whole thing even funnier.
The Cubs pitchers must have a thing for Napoleon Dynamite. I remember I went on the Wrigley Field tour a couple of years ago, and there was a Napoleon Dynamite postcard up in Zambrano's locker.
That's pretty funny! Chicagoist needs more sports coverage!!!!
The Hill thing was funnier than that entire movie.
Actually the Napolean Dynamite postcard was in Glendon Rusch's locker on my Wrigley tour. It was of Napolean feeding Tina. Glendon also had a rookie Michael Barrett card which now must be worth like a zillion dollars. I like how baseball almanac lists Glendon at 6-2 170lbs.
Hey, what does this have to do with Pitchfork? (Guest is an inquisitive bunch.)
I am hot for Rich Hill now.
Come on, what did you expect from Dick Stockton? Hell, he kept referring to Alfonso Soriano as "Adolfo."
Guest #9, Hill once toured with Deerhunter as a hired gun on guitar. Also Lilly helped design some of the costumes used in the Of Montreal set.
I love you Bill! Hysterical.
