Delicatessen Meyer Space Gets New Tenants, Possible New Name

2007_07_meyer1.jpgLincoln Square residents, if not Chicagoans, were saddened by the demise of Delicatessan Meyer this winter, even though the place was a shell of its former self.

Recent media reports indicate that the Delicatessen Meyer space will soon be selling sausages again. The property has been purchased by the Luszcz family, owners of Belmont-Cragin institution Gene's Sausage Shop. Being familiar with Gene's from our own childhood, we can't help but look at this development as nothing short of a happy ending. The plan right now is for the Luszcz family to have Meyer open by the holidays, and they're even working on trying to incorporate the Delicatessen Meyer name into the new storefront; Meyer's famed front marquee and sign remain in good condition.
