I'd bet the farm that these two characters had hangovers. And I blame the media for 500 people lining up for this sickness. I don't think 500 people have eaten hummus in the existence of the dip. I'm in Pars Cove's corner on the fact that they could debunk 500 orders (shared or not) were served.

Well, this is a little different from the misplaced pants case. It's not really unreasonable for someone who consumed contaminated food and became ill to bring a personal injury lawsuit against the restaurant that served it. There are also legitimate reasons for filing a lawsuit right away...for example, the plaintiff can immediately ask for court protection in preserving evidence that might otherwise disappear. Of course, this case has "potential class action" written all over it. This could ultimately be transformed into litigation motivated to provide compensation for class action lawyers, rather than salmonella victims.
