Windquest Win Race to Mackinac

2007_07_sports_race_to_mac_logo.jpgThe 99th Race to Mackinac, the longest freshwater sailing race in the world, set sail on Saturday at noon. With strong winds to begin the race, Windquest reached Mackinac barely a day later, in 28 hours 44 minutes. Factoring in the boat's handicap, it finished in 43 hours 31 minutes to win the Chicago-Mackinac Trophy.

The 86 foot yacht is owned by Doug DeVos of Macatawa, Michigan, who sailed with a crew of 23.

As of Tuesday morning, Chicagoist's friends on Vayu were approaching the finish while many boats have already reached the island. Results for the 300 entries can be viewed here.
