Plain White T's Are HOT!

2007_07_plain_white_ts_01l.gifThe Plain White T’s have quietly been playing around since 1997, but ten years in they are experiencing something called “success” with their first major label album, Every Second Counts. The band earned its first Billboard Hot 100 No.1 with their single “Hey There Delilah” unseating Rihanna’s “Umbrella” which spent seven weeks at the top.

Just last week the RedEye Chi-Tunes spotlight featured the band and the hottest song in the country. Was that enough to finally push the song from #2 to #1? Our next chance to catch the band anywhere near home is at the DuPage County Fair on July 26 or at Six Flags in Gurnee on August 17.

Man, this song blows. It's the typical "emo acoustic" song all punk-type bands like to plop onto their records to help them get chicks. It's also so very annoying.

I liked this band a few years ago, but after listening to way to much Fall Out Boy and Academy Is... and the like, I'm This-Samey-Sounding-Kind-Of-Music-ed out.

Are you against bands getting laid? That's not very rock-n-roll.

I, too, am pop-punked/emo'd out and luckily have not had to hear the song today since I don't have sound at work, but it's a milestone for the band nonetheless.

The Plain White T's opened for my band at a concert in Decatur, IL back in 1996 or 1997. True story. They were much better than us back then, imagine that. lol

Julene is right, what's the point of being in a band if you're not making money and getting laid? Fuck that true artist BS. It's rock and roll, it's popular, deal with it.

If plain white T's had been at pitchfork, everybody here would love them.

Don't know how these guys will last through this. Saw them at a show a few months ago with some kids from work. The band plays the whole show than does the faux-exit.

Only the singer comes back on, grabs a guitar, and sings Hey There Delilah by his lonesome.

Not the best representation of the band as a whole when the #1 song from the band is a solo effort. And besides, they didn't really seem to fit together well anyway. Just a different sound than his voice was made for.

I don't know much about these guys but they really seem to be banking on this song, and that's usually a bad long-term sign for a band. Hey There Delilah was on a 2005 album All That We Needed, then in 2006 Every Second Counts, and then in 2006 EP Hey There Delilah with a "new" version and a "live" version.

Jesus Christ, this band stinks.

Julene McCoys track record with music is dismally low. I know this falls under more of a non-review (another one of her specialties)but I think she needs to stick to other topics than music.

g9, you are so brave to lob out comments without attaching your name to them.

They're not terrible, they just sound like a million other bands out there.
They do have a couple catchy songs tho. I like that You and Me song.

This really funny. and well I think they are an amazing band.
