I saw the B-25 fly over Lincolnwood this afternoon, but didn't know what it was until now. It was at around 1,000 feet.

A lot of people don't know that American bomber pilots in WWII had something like a 50% survival rate. It was brutal; one of the most dangerous things you could do. To see a picture of what it was like with the shrapnel bombarding the plane, Google an image search of "B-17 shrapnel." These were brave kids, most of them only 18, 19 or 20 years old, and most of us will never have to experience anything close to what they went through.

I saw one this afternoon as I was running errands. I live out near Palwaukee Airport (now "Chicago Executive Airport" UGH). It must have just taken off and I honestly didn't know what it was, but man was it cool! Thanks for letting me know what I was seeing at a distance!
