1. Porn stars playing Twister. And for a charitable donation, you can join in as well.
2. Gay cheerleaders of the Chicago Spirit Brigade soaring through the air. When you have a significant male presence on the squad, things people really get flying.
3. Shirtless muscle men. And an occasional shirtless woman.
4. Models wearing cutting-edge fashions, strutting their stuff. In an over-exagerated dance move, the rear seam in one model’s pants bursts open.
5. Tell it to my heart, Taylor Dayne. She appears on the Roscoe Stage at 6:45 p.m. this evening.
6. ROTC (Righteously Outrageous Twirling Corps) Chicago twirling their riffles to classic disco tunes.
7. Shout!, the Lakeside Pride Jazz Ensemble, filling the streets with soothing jazz.
8. Dancing in the streets to the sounds by international recording artist Ari Gold.
9. Nearly 400 vendors taking up six city blocks.
10. Bumping into friends from all over the country, who come to Chicago this weekend to attend the festival.
These are just some of the reasons we love Halsted Street Market Days, a family festival of a different stort. In it’s 26th year, the festival continues today on Halsted between Belmont and Addison. Billed as the largest outdoor two-day festival in the Midwest, the event features five stages of entertainment, arts and craft, food, and more.
The festival is sponsored by the Northhalsted Area Merchants Association. There is a voluntary $5 donation suggested at the gate. The complete entertainment schedule is available on their Web site.

A "family festival" with gay porn stars in speedos is of a "different stort", indeed.
I use to dig market days, because of the festive atmosphere and cool artistic stuff, that could be had at a lot of Chicago street fests, until Darth Daley “privatized” them with entrance fees and high both prices, so now the nearly 400 vendors are basically selling the same thing city wide.
Yea the twister game was a site, and I was glade to get my yearly supply of high quality leather incents-you can only purchase it from the Acme Toy Company. Now I hope I don’t come off as a homo phoebe, (like Rev. Dr. Senator Meeks)
cause I aint, and I’m not anti pageantry because I dig it, but having checked out the gay scene in NY and New Orleans. it seems that gay Midwest white men have become a frivolous, comic parody of “gay life”. At least that’s what it seems like looking in from the outside.
I don’t know maybe I’, just grumpy from the war and deeply troubled by the fact that our economy had to be bailed out internationally because corporate gangsters doomed how many citizens to home foreclosure and bankruptcy?
Completely off-topic, but still ...
Nobody doomed these citizens to home foreclosure and bankruptcy. These people saw a cash bonanza with the housing market and wanted in on it, so they took out stupid loans they couldn't pay for, and that they KNEW they couldn't pay for. It was their own greed that doomed them.
Of course, it's easier for someone like Spook to blame "corporate gangsters" than to believe that people should be responsible for their own greed.
Yeah, guest3. That greed road doesn't go both ways. Pfft.
Spook, I'm guessing from your rather telling "I'm not a homophobe, I swear!" comment, that you're straight. What the fuck would you know about gay life? Unless someone's putting a dick in your ass, keep your opinion to yourself. Thanks in advance.
That's pretty disgusting.
That picture got me so hot. DAMN!!!
Yeah Daley ruined it for gay people. There was barely a boys town until after he took office, and bringing the gay games here shows he hates homosexuals. I feel bad for people who bitch about politicians all day. Who has time for that with HOT men like the ones above online!
Of course Daley loves gays.
Well, he loves their money and their votes at least. I mean, the guy's not stupid.
Beneath a photo of men in speedos playing twister, a commenter sees this as the right thread in which to complain about the war, corporate gangsters, and home mortgage foreclosures. See why the left has lost credibility?
A politician does things to help citizenry knowing that in return he will be rewarded with votes. This and more guest 8 commentary on captainobvious.com.
as much as i think daley is an arrogant thug, he's not charging fees to enter the halsted street faire. this, like many of the street fairs in the city, is a privately-owned and run enterprise [by an outfit with a name that suspiciously sounds like HIS office of special events]. the entrance fee [as has been documented here often] is voluntary. a 'donation' to the local chamber of commerce.
as far as actual discussion on the faire, i was happy to see all the music stages pushed to the sides, instead of at the ends of the streets, which eliminated a great deal of crowd congestion. on the other hand, i think its absurd that so many media outlets talked about the 'diverse' crowd and how it is one of the more 'upscale' fests in the city, and really, there was hardly a mention, in the papers and TV, of the word 'gay.' the organizers don't help much, either. i don't see how you can hold a massive street fest in the heart of the midwest's biggest gay neighborhood and not book any major gay/lesbian music acts. c'mon, a 'summer of love' tribute with a janis joplin impersonator? and taylor dayne?
