Well I'll have to remember that if I get desperate during my week of local eating. Although I don't think I'll get desperate enough for potted meat, but maybe that's just me. (And to 'guest' commenting on Alisa's slacks: no, they weren't really 'crazy' in person just must be the camera, and yes, you clever reader you, that is her.)

I think there are a lot of unhealthy foods made within 100 miles of Chicago. Aren't Tootsie Rolls made here, as well as Sara Lee and Kraft products? I'm almost sure that some potted meat is still made here somewhere :)

For the Localvore Challenge week, I plan on using fresh herbs grown locally. But your question is a good one. Hopefully, someone with more experience will have some answers. Or you might want to check out the web site 100milediet.org

So, people who have read the book and/or joined this lifestyle -- what about spices? Am I jsut completely unaware of locally-grown cinnamon, cardamom and cumin, or have you bid adieu to those zesty flavors?
