The sculpture does have a name - it is "The Picasso". Not an untitled sculpture by Pablo Picasso. Simply "The Picasso". I heard this Picasso guy did some other things but who cares about them.

It's pretty commonly acknowledged to be a woman. Take a look at Picasso's Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, and you'll recognize the style. moma.org/collection/conservation/demoiselles/index.html

Way back in high school, I got to talking about this with some friends. Somebody pointed out that it was a bit vulvic. Of all the suggestions, I like this one the best; the idea of a big, stylized vulva in the center of Daley Plaza tickles me to no end.

I seem to remember seeing(?) or hearing(?) that if you look at the statue from it's profile, you will see the profile of Daley the First in the negative space.

The Picasso may not have had a name when it was dedicated, but the plaza it stood on certainly did and it wasn't Daley--it was the Civic Center Plaza. The new name certainly is a sign of the times.
