After a veritable outpouring of support expressed through an open letter, Fourth District Congressman Luis Gutiérrez announced that he would seek a 9th term in congress. “The situation is going to get worse for the immigrant community, there’ll be more deportations and more separation of families and more damage to our community,” Gutierrez said yesterday. “I want to come back to see if a Democrat-controlled Congress with a president called Barack Obama can bring an end to this nightmare of injustices for the people of the immigrant community.”
Now that 12th Ward Alderman Ricardo Munoz has dropped out, four other candidates have to decide what they will do. First Ward Alderman Manny Flores, who has already raised half a million dollars for his candidacy, said that he "would respect his decision should he decide to run.”
The letter was signed by 27 political and community leaders, urging him to run again. “To me, it was a no-brainer,” said McPier CEO Juan Ochoa told CBS2. “Who could best take the fight on and come home with a victory? I think that's Congressman Gutierrez.” Although this announcement opens him up to criticism, his wife's health may have influenced his decision. Soraida Gutierrez has been battling cancer, but he says she has gotten better recently.

Extra, Extra

sucka! This just shows you the level of disrespect poli-creeps have for us. I mean he says he's gonna resign, then gets those waiting in the wings to right him letters begging him not too because "he's too important"
I bet he was never serious
This was as predictable as a Cubs stretch run collapse considering:
1) Gutierrez is just 53, what else would he do? Join the private sector?
2) When Daley decides to step down, or if his support weakens, Gutierrez would need to run for mayor from a position of power.
Well, he could've went back to driving a cab
I can't stand the guy he sounds like a cartoon character.
manny is a true independent. he will not back down from this challenge. he will fight and he will win.
More HDO bullshit!
Alderman Munoz represents the 22nd Ward, but don't let facts get in the way of this important political development.
Manny, Luis and Munnnny is all crooks. Do you realize that if the Hispanics stuck together, they could run this city, by sheer voting power alone?
Guest 2:15.
Do a little research before you open your trap.
Hispanics make up about 15% of the eligible voters in the city. That is because of age and citizenship reasons. They likely make up 35% or more of the population.
So endeth the lesson.
If this City obeyed the law and deported this brown horde, we could save millions on having to print everything in two languages, building new schools on every block every year because they people breed like rabbits and overcrowd the county health system.
Making $5 an hour cutting lawns does not generate enough in taxes to pay for the government resources these parasites cost us
Guest ten needs to go back to Naperville.
Old Pirate, any of the other two groups that pools itself can take over the Daley administration. If either the blacks or browns got their acts together and stopped with the b.s. within their own groups, the Irishes would be done. It's that simple. There aren't many Irishes left in this city, and one need only look at the South Side, from say, Pilsen, to Little Village, to Back of the Yards, and west of Western, all the way to Cicero, to see Browntown for all its worth. The same can be said for large portions of the North and Northwest Sides. Whatever is on the papers you've referenced is, indeed, dated. The Hispanics are the new Irish in this town, illegally or otherwise. If they weren't at each other's throats, they could tip the scales in favor of their guy. But they just can't decide on a guy. It's the same with the blacks. If Harold Washington proved anything, it's that. But in the vacuum that started in the wake of his demise, they just couldn't decide.
Guest 12 thank you for your insight and keen grasp of English grammar and spelling.
Learn to count. One day hispanics may have the numbers to control this city. That day AINT here yet and may never get here. Recent census data shows many new hispanic immigrants moving directly to the suburbs upon arrival.
Ultimately the number that matters is legal and voting age.
It's funny to see what public figures say in public compared to what they say in private.
Juan Ochoa of McPier, privately, has no respect for Gutierrez. Yet in public he sounds like a Gutierrez groupie. That's how Ochoa will build points and favors. Hey, remember that Ochoa got the McPier job as head of McPier despite zero experience in any of the convention, construction, or facilities management fields.
He and the others "begging" Gutierrez to run will stand in line to get their favor returned.
