There seems to be a double standard, when it comes to the voiceless. Remember the SOS of the Chicago police has been involved with criminal activites itself. Home invasion ,theft, kidnapping, are some the crimes committed by SOS members. The police should not be judge ,jury ,and excutioner. Maybe some people like the idea of South American style death squads, operating in Chicago.

Chicagoist, You have somebody who investigates and reports, right? Fire THEM because they failed to invstigate and inform you who the real KENNY SHANNON is! Is this teeneager so innocent now that you know that he has direct ties to the vice lords? A career criminal, a common thug gets shot and killed (justified) by the police. I say better him than a police officer who is on the right side of the law, serving and protecting, putting in his 8 hrs. a day. What was Mr. Harrison's great life mission? Was he planning on getting his 14th, 15th, 16th arrest by the fall season? It is a joke, that Mr. Harrison's family, the reverends/activists, and the community failed this repeated criminal so miserably and then they have the nerve to blame everybody else. Where was queen sister, when Mr. Harrison was arrested 13 times? Had the police officer been shot and killed, the media would have covered it up until he was buried and the all of chicago would have forgotten about him by days end, but a career criminal gets killed in a justified shooting by a police officer and we are still mourning the "supposed" loss and digging deeper, trying to get answers? What is wrong with our city? Where is the respect for police officers? ALL THE FRIVOLOUS LAWSUITS AND THE PARENTS WHO FAILED THIS REPEATED-ARRESTEE GET TO CASH IN... CHA- CHING! Sincerely, not a police officer P.S. MY 9 YR.OLD DAUGHTER HAS A QUESTION... SHE WANTS TO KNOW WHAT KIND OF PARENT WOULD LET THEIR CHILD GET ARRESTED 13 TIMES?

May He bless them against every idiot in chicago who chooses to break the law and carry firearms. May He bless them against every moron who chooses to run from the police, only to turn and point a firearm at the police. May He bless them against every career-criminal. Why would you see him asking the dailies? You don't work there. Kudos to the police for their excellent work in dealing with this situation. It is unfortunate they had to use deadly force, but it is highly justified when dealing with criminal teenagers in that type of situation.

You bring a gun onto the streets it doesnt matter if its for protection or to show off you are not a victim you are a criminal reasponsible when things go wrong. The majority of the people in the comunity are tired of the gangbangers and drug dealers but they are the ones with jobs and responsibilites so they arent on the news they are at work or taking care of there families, the news loves to show the person who yells the loudest or makes the most outrageus claim. Not the poor sap who is working everyday and keeping there family away from drugs and gangs. The decent people in the community get lumped together with the gangbangers who want less police and the wanna be preachers and so called activists who just want to be on TV.

As a resident living in this area this article scares the shit out of me. Why? Drive down Roosevelt or Ogden and you'll see the remnants of the last riots. There are blocks in my neighborhood that have more empty lots than houses! All those empty lots represent a burnt down building or business. These "reverands/ activists" are playing with fire. In the course of furthering their own careers and agendas they are inciting angry youths to "take revenge". Will a full blown riot like the ones in 1968 make them happy? North Lawndale is barely coming back from those devasting riots 40 years ago. We don't need another one! Shame on those scam artists such as Sharpton and Hampton. If the neighborhood is burnt to the ground AGAIN, the blood is on their hands.

I am no fan of Chicago cops, but I am no fan of a mob mentality, either, that refuses to rise above the situation. Yes, life can suck for much of us, especially with the way power is held and used in this segregated and cynical and mostly crappy city, but the only way to really change things is for those on the bottom to find a way to rise above the situation and then apply pressure. Anything less is just rabble recklessly venting energy, a situation more like the French Revolution (yes, the scales are vastly different, but that's not the point) than, say, the brilliant work of MLK.

I think in the wake of this, the cops should listen to the community. They should pull back, quit trying to catch offenders, and let the community take care of itself. I guarantee, it won't be a week before somebody starts loudly demanding that the cops "do something."
