<p>Here's a little piece of a press release from Publo Sin Fronteras, signed by Arellano... lest there be any doubt as to her true intentions...

link: somosunpueblo.com/Unify_and_Focus.html

UNIFY AND FOCUS OUR MOVEMENT NOW !

Emma Lozano, presidente Pueblo sin Fronteras

Elvira Arellano, presidente La Familia Latina Unida

...We have supported self-determination and opposed assimilation into this nation's individualistic, imperialistic values. We have taught that our people did not come here because of the American Dream but because of what the American nightmare did to our countries of origin. We have asserted that our demand to be here and to be fully enfranchised here is a right not a privilige and a destiny of our people to transform this nation. </p>

<p>Heyyyyyy Shannon and Sarah Dank!

Its clear as mud that its o.k. too assume that Elvira Arellano's son Juan (or any of HIS friends) are not reading these comments about His Mother.

Or there are no other young Hispanic children reading about the "gentlemanly offer" made by a Member Of The Chicagoist Community, to give Hispanic women a "slice of -his- summer sausage for sure to help her have another baby".

And of course there is the welcomed “Guest” 45 little limerick chalked full of grade A+ + + American racism and Hate.

Oh and "Welcomed "GUEST 51's" "Why the hell would I want to go to a shit-hole like Mexico?
We should lay a minefield, like what is between North and South Korea, between Texas, Arizona, NewMexico and their border" is one for the books as well, yes indeedy a Red White and Blue "keeper" as well.

These nice little ditties get to stay! But poke fun of some blue eyed baby girls of the Empire as the enjoy "their privilege" with out critical thought and its time for thier Big Sisters to circle the wagons to protect/shelter them from harm! I’m not gonna say point to an “Emmett Till” theory, but it certainly is interesting what’s o.k. and what is Not. I guess Guest 27 put it best when he opined from the weighty depths of his third grade education, "in the absence of spook, the rest of us have gone from being twitty morons to just regular people with opinions."

Yup just a buncgh of regular Americans here, for the most part any way!

<p>GIULIANI WANTS TO PROTECT ILLEGAL ALIENS!!!

"Some of the hardest-working and most productive people in this city are undocumented aliens," Giuliani said at the time. "If you come here and you work hard and you happen to be in an undocumented status, you're one of the people who we want in this city. You're somebody that we want to protect, and we want you to get out from under what is often a life of being like a fugitive, which is really unfair."

<p>I come for visit, get treated regal,
So I stay, who care I illegal?
I cross border, poor and broke,
Take bus, see employment folk.

Nice man treat me good in there,
Say I need to see welfare.
Welfare say, “You come no more,
We send cash right to your door.”

Welfare checks, they make you wealthy,
Medicaid it keep you healthy!
By and by, I got plenty money,
Thanks to you, American dummy.

Write to friends in motherland,
Tell them come as fast as you can.
They come in rags and Chebby trucks,
I buy big house with welfare bucks.

They come here, we live together,
More welfare checks, it gets better!
Fourteen families they moving in,
But neighbor’s patience wearing thin.

Finally, white guy moves away,
Now I buy his house, and then I say,
“Find more aliens for house to rent.”
And in the yard I put a tent.

Send for family quick like bunny,
Then they too draw the welfare money!
Everything is mucho good,
And soon we own the neighborhood.

We have hobby—it’s called breeding,
Welfare pay for baby feeding.
Kids need dentist? Wife need pills?
We get free! We got no bills!

American crazy! He pay all year,
To keep welfare running here.
We think America darn good place!
Too darn good for the white man race.
If they no like us, they can go,
Got lots of room in Mexico!

"they don't spawn evil dictator's"

Dictators are recruited to attend and elite university called "School of the Americas" renamed "Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation" There they learn all sorts of nifty tricks to take back to their country, like "teeth pulling 101" advanced electric shock, eye ball pulling, etc, etc, etc.

Ah yes, so it really is America's fault. I knew we couldn't continue without this all being our fault, especially a republican's.
While your at it google mecha and then you'll really see why everything is America's fault, all the way back to damn Columbus. These poor 3rd world corrupt nations really get a bad rap; they don't spawn evil dictator's or throw us their garbage miscreants- we should hand ourselves over to these nutbags.

And MS-13 "spawned in Los Angeles by church sanctuary policy decades ago"? Try the CIA's involvement in Central America in the 1980's in our government's quest to oppose communism on all fronts. That's where Mara really came from.</p>

<p>No, Elvira should not have been deported, she should be doing 10-20 in the Federal Pen. After she had served her sentence then, and only then, should she have been deported.

I'd personally rather have my tax money go toward the drive across the border rather than paying for her to reside for two decades in our bloated prison system.

Once again, the Bush administration does the wrong thing and, as a result, Elvira, like the Terminator, will be back.

I see........

<p>Ah, Spook, how little you know.

Mexican invaders are NOT interested in coalition building. You might seek enlightenment on that subject from the very progressive LA Weekly who published what the LA Times would not -- that Mexican invaders and their faux-citizen offspring are ethnically cleansing whole communities of any race that is not a member of La Raza (de Bronce).

The fact of the matter is that if you happen to be an American, and especially a black American, there are places in invader-occupied territory where you will be shot dead for just being there. And, they are not shot by the Klu Klux Klan, either. No, they are shot by the ethnic supremecists of the Tan Klan -- La Raza (de Bronce).

This has been true in Los Angeles for many years. Now, it looks like this infection has spread across the nation -- all the way to New Jersey. MS-13 was spawned in Los Angeles by church sanctuary policy decades ago. Now, the fruits of that policy are killing kids in New Jersey. I would not call that progressive.

<p>The Feds should never have deported her. That was wrong and a miscarriage of justice. What they should have done was to hold her for trial for entry without inspection, re-entry after deportation, Social Security fraud, IRS code violations, failure to appear for a deportation hearing, contributing to the delinquency of a minor (her son).

The Feds should have demanded the maximum sentence possible for this creature who defied the law and bragged about it, all the while hiding behind her faux-citizen child and teaching him to disobey the law. No, Elvira should not have been deported, she should be doing 10-20 in the Federal Pen. After she had served her sentence then, and only then, should she have been deported.

Her child should have been given to his father (everyone seems to forget that the boy does have a father) or fostered out to a law abiding American couple to raise. By the time Elvira got out of prison and was deported back to Mexico, her son would be 18-28 years old and could chose to join here there under Mexican dual-citizenship laws, he would not be able to petition to bring her into the country through chain migration (family reunification) because of her prison sentence.

Once again, the Bush administration does the wrong thing and, as a result, Elvira, like the Terminator, will be back.

<p> Sorry your Spook has been out in the field laying small covert foundations for revolution, which can't always be done at a desk.

But Guest 27 I wish I had that-

"in the absence of spook, the rest of us have gone from being twitty morons to just regular people with opinions."

- type of control.

Then we might be a better Nation, instead of a Empire of isolated and arrogant twitty morons, which elected a president in our own image, twice!

And I love how the "guests" who attack my grammar are those who couldn't master a “Speak and Spell” And how long are you gonna hide behind "guest"? How cowardly to do so in this of all forums!

Now on a heartfelt note. Yall know I was against the whole “Elvira Arellano" campaign, the marches, etc,. But I’m not gonna gloat or hammer a marginalized women and a mother when she’s “down". But I hope she learned something about grass roots organizing and I hope she is welcomed back into her country by the progressive elements in Mexican Politics. I hope she reads about political movements world wide including the Civil Rights Movement. I also hope that the Mexican dominated immigration movement in America changes its myopic tactics and becomes deeper and honestly reaches out to the numerous disenfranchised communities in American that struggle for justice. I hope the leadership learns about the issuesand how issues between both communities contradict and cause friction.

Coalitions in this era of expansive global capitalist greed are more important than ever.

But the Elvira politics of “me me me and only me first”, while ignoring communities that have been suffering for a long time will sow nothing but bitter division and buying off leaders like Jesse "Pimp Daddy" Jackson isn't coalition building. And perhaps they might want to examine the very name of the major Mexican American news paper in Chicago “LaRaza” which means “The Race”

I hope to hear more from Elvira Arellano and her son in the future, about the great things they are doing for those that struggle with out relief and recognition in Mexico, like Rosa Parks did here.</p>

<p> 22 what part is it you do not understand???? of post 14 here it is again After the cival war
the 13th amendment was passed with the vote of the southern states then the vote of the 14th amendment came up for vote The southern states
Reps.were locked out of congress and replaced with northern Generals who voted in there place.
(having labled the southern states Reps as
rebels) Then the vote came to the 15 amendment the southern states were again allowed to vote.
To make it simple the southen states were allowed to vote for the 13th and 15th amendment but not the 14th.
If you can not understand that try looking up the law that never was ,for an insite into our government of LIER LAWYERS</p>

<p>Guest 30 - I see what you are saying. I don't think anyone should live in poverty anywhere, and poverty in the U.S. is just as appalling and widespread. I'm not sure I agree with this, though, "Often, they fail to find it, but they still believe it must be out there, so they come back again and again." I do think that there must be enough opportunity in the States to risk the journey many of them take. If they had a choice in Mexico, I'd think they would take it. But I agree that the "American Dream" dies hard.

As for sentencing, no, I don't suppose children should be the only factor in its determination, but I think it should be considered--if only our Draconian mandatory drug sentences could be rescinded to allow for discretion AND parents weren't shipped hundreds or 1,000s of miles away from their families so that visits are impossible. To children, a parent is a parent, and so many of the incarcerated are locked up for cruelly long terms that ignore the possibility that having a family nearby that they might actually get to live with again someday might give them a motivation to rehabilitate.</p>

<p>Ferdy: I think what guest 11 was saying was that even US citizens who have children and are guilty of crimes unfortunately heap problems onto their children BUT they are not given lighter sentences simply based on the fact that they have children. Skaterina seems to think that by virtue of having a child here in the US, Ms. Arelleno should've receive greater sympathy for her "cause".

Ms. Arelleno knew the risks associted w/ having a child here in the US if she wasn't a citizen. She took the risk, along w/ the risk of falsifying a social security number - and she was caught.

We have plenty of legal US citizens who don't have jobs, health insurance, a living wage, or justice from the courts without having to rally behind an illigal immigrant who committed several crimes and chooses to stand behind her son as the reason for her to be allowed to stay in this country.</p>

<p>"The problem with Arelleno was her arrogance, her strange attitude that she was somehow entitled to steal somebody else's social security number and then hide in a church and loudly dare the government to come after her."

I 100% agree. I don't know who advised her to do this, but they glossed right over the fact that she stole the "rights" she so arrogantly demanded. I don't so much mind the idea of sanctuary, but I definitely mind that anyone would ever consider her a martyr.</p>

<p>Ferdy ... Guest 19 here (Or maybe Navin's conspiracy-of-one theory is right and I really am ALL the guests),

I think the real issue is a kind of marketing that both sides of the border buy into, whether it's real or not. The narrative is that the U.S. offers a better life and opportunity for all, so millions of Mexicans vote with their feet for that better opportunity. Often, they fail to find it, but they still believe it must be out there, so they come back again and again. Marketing is a difficult thing for reality to overcome.

The reality, from my own personal experience in both nations, is that the real difference is on the upper end of the socioeconomic scale rather than the lower. This is to say the rich in the U.S. can push farther than the rich in Mexico, and various economic factors make it seem like we have more rich per capita here. But it's no easier to get rich in the U.S. if you don't start out there, especially for an immigrant, and for the most part the lifestyle of those living in poverty is the same. You have the same lack of opportunity to health and education, the same sense of marginalization, the same difficulty finding basic nutrition, and so on.

And yet so many of us put forth the argument that we are somehow harming a kid by sending him away to live with his family in probable poverty in Mexico than by allowing him to live in poverty in the U.S. There's nothing about living in the U.S. that makes being poor here any better, and to say so only suggests a typical American arrogance.</p>

<p>Glad she is gone.

Pisses me off when other groups (illegals, women's rights, gays, etc.) all ride on the backs of blacks and their civil rights movement of the 60's.

Mexicans cutting lawns and picking fruit in no way put enough back into the tax system to cover the cost of educating their hordes of children, the free Cook County Healthcare system, etc.

That is the 500 pound gorilla in the room - the costs of these people are what is breaking the backs of local and county governments.</p>

<p>Guest 19 - It seems your charge of arrogance is that we assume a lot of bad things about Mexico and they might not be true. Fair enough, but I don't see you offering evidence that the reviled lady in question is going back to a place at least as good as the one she's leaving--and taking her brat with her.

My pop always said to vote with my feet. It seems to me that the people who are risking life and limb to leave Mexico illegally are voting with their feet about which place they think is better. Even after deportation, they come back, so it's not like they got disillusioned once they got here.

And the fact that you only chose to respond to the first sentence of my post proves to me, anyway, that you are indeed nitpicking. Or is it cherry picking?</p>

<p>There is strange kind of jingoistic arrogance behind the argument that we're hurting the children by deporting the parents. First, the parents have the choice between taking their children with them or leaving them in the U.S. under the care of some guardian, so the child's rights as a citizen are not harmed. But that's the choice of the parent, and irrelevant to anyone else.

What is strange, though, is this sense that simply living in another nation is harmful to a child. Somebody commenting on a previous post implied that children going back would be doomed to live in poverty, but you know, I don't think most children of illegal immigrants are living high on the hog here. Why is living in poverty in the U.S. so much better than living in poverty anyplace else? Is the United States so superior that even our street people are better off? </p>

In those cases, too, the parents created the problem for the children. But they are not rewarded with light sentences or no conviction simply based on the fact that they are parents."

And this is wrong. Children of the incarcerated suffer tremendously and are more likely to go on to lives of crime and substance abuse. The system is broken because it has abandoned rehabilitation and true justice for mere punishment and hanging justice.</p>

<p>Skaterina--Now, why is Saul having to go to Mexico with his mother "suffering"? Millions of Mexicans live quite happy lives there. While a Pew Hispanic Center poll found that slightly less than half would immigrate here if they could, that also implies that more than half don't want to leave Mexico for the US. Furthermore, if various churches and others are so concerned about Saul and others like him, how about they see to it that the mothers and fathers of these kids have jobs when they're sent home, and that the kids get educations, including English? </p>

<p>Skaterina: Cynics among us would say, however, that some(certainly not all) arrive in this country and have children precisely to further their claims to citizenship/rights. Ms. Arellano committed several crimes and then had the audacity to say that the US was attempting to separate her from her son. In truth, however, they were attempting to punish her for commiting crimes.

Her son is an innocent bystander in this situation to be sure but his mother is not. Should we spare the criminal to raise her son here in the US? What type of example does she set? How much of a part of "this society" can her son be if his mother is has locked herself in a church to keep from being deported or convicted?

Children whose parents happen to be drug addicts or criminals - and US citizens - are generally, if the system is working correctly, separated from their mother and/or father. In those cases, too, the parents created the problem for the children. But they are not rewarded with light sentences or no conviction simply based on the fact that they are parents.

The system is broken - on that we can all agree - but there have to be consequences for actions. If Ms. Arellano (and others) are not punished for their crimes, then they are given a free pass for starting their new lives in the US illegally. Throwing that in the face of others who have arrived here legally does not help her cause.</p>

<p>The problem with Arelleno was her arrogance, her strange attitude that she was somehow entitled to steal somebody else's social security number and then hide in a church and loudly dare the government to come after her. Arrogance and entitlement will never bring anyone over to your side of an argument.

In my opinion, the government was wise to leave her alone. She wanted the pubicity of a church standoff and an Elian Gonzalez moment. Maybe if she were lucky, somebody would snap a photo of cops pointing a gun at her screaming boy. Instead, the feds waited her out until she got bored, and they took her far from any cameras.

<p>Comparing a person who snuck into this country, faked documents and broke many immigration and other laws to a person who was in this country because her great-great grandparents were brought here on a slaveship doesn't make sense to me.

I do agree that immigration laws need to be fixed, though...</p>

<p>I think that Arellano would have received more sympathy if she would have emphasized that her son as a U.S. citizen has a right to live here and be a part of this society, but he cannot do that as a minor without having his legal guardian here with him. I don't think it would have gotten her anywhere legally but it's a better argument than any of the arguments she made.

I think there is a fairly strong argument that can be made on behalf of her son and children in the same predicament. As citizens they have every right to be here but when their parents are deported, they are effectively deported as well. Yes, you can blame the parents for creating the situation, but lots of parents create bad situations for their children for which the children should not have to pay the consequences.</p>

<p>Ferdy: I wonder if your sarcasm meter is broken.

Then again, Kevin's a union type of guy, and many union guys don't like cheap labor. Yeah, some of these union guys, the ones who pretend worker solidarity is more important than naked self-interest, say they don't like fellow workers being exploited, but what they really don't like is wage competition. </p>

<p>The way I see it, the government has finally done something in the financial interest of this country. Rather than go after her 1500-2000 miles from the border, they wait until her dumb ass goes to LA. Let someone else shell out the gas money and housing accommodations for her. I just wonder if they slowed the car down in Tijuana when they dropped her off.
Now she wants to talk to the Mexican government about her strife. This reminds me of the Curb Your Enthusiasm episode where Cheryl's sister is having her Jewish fiance baptized so they can get married:
-You didn't want to lose another Jew.
-I don't care. What do I need him for? Take them all.

<p>Absolutely no sympathy for Arellano from me. She could have been a more sympathetic figure had she:

1) Not hid in a church for a full year. Rosa Parks did not hide.

2) Not faked a SS number.

3) Attempted to learn English with all her free time.</p>
