Jocelyn, a cursory glance at the website, and you would have known that it is the Chicago History Museum, not the Historical Society, and hasn't been for almost a year.

We lost power at 3ish yesterday and haven't gotten it back-of course, we live right on Roscoe, which is the division of the grid. Which means we got to sit out front last night and look at the people across the street enjoying their lights and air conditioning :(

ComEd told us this morning power should be restored "within 72 hours". I'm thinking it's at least out thru next wednesday. The neighborhood is a disaster area, 2/3 of the streets are 100% blocked by downed trees, and Wellington is entirely flooded under the Metra viaduct (between Ashland and Damen).

in the Trib a caption for a photo of a fallen tree reads: "Downed trees were blocking trees and reportedly had caused dangerous gas leaks."

what a sad day for trees

Also, the back wall of a building on Ashland at Diversey reportedly collapsed due to the weather.

I was outside a little earlier, walked through the neighborhoods from Belmont and Western to Roscoe and Ashland. Several big trees down. Saw three cars flattened by trees. The water was two to three inches deep in some parts of the streets and sidewalks. Many power lines down. Mostly I feared that I would be electrocuted as I dodged the downed tree branches around downed powerlines.

I think "shocking storm" was pretty accurate, actually. I work in the Tribune building, and I doubt any of us coming to work today expected to be ushered into the interior hallways in the middle of the afternoon.

I just rode my bike up Clark from 400N to 4600N. Lots of blocks without power (near Wrigley) and lots and lots of trees (even one very large tree) snapped in half or completely uprooted (in the case of the large tree)

A friend of mine was stuck at Belmont for a little bit, but got off the brown line around 4:45, so it was running at that point.

Anyone heard the rumor that the brown line isn't running because of a tree on the tracks? If it's true, that might be good for people to know.
