Flickr user todd.burbo titled this nicely focused spider shot, "Home Security System." Up here in Lakeview, our home has recently been under siege by the little eight-legged buggers that haunt our dreams, almost discouraging us from hanging out in the house. Maybe it's just our perception, but once we're deterred from being at home, that's a security system gone too far. We're sure our spider fear can be chalked up to a combination of a traumatizing viewing of Arachnophobia as a child and a case of the willies at the thought of the old spider-swallowing urban legend, decidedly childish causes of a fear that is relatively unwarranted, but nevertheless, it persists.

What are you scared of that you know you shouldn't be? (Acceptable answers include getting caught in the doors of the blue line, another "hiphopera" from R. Kelly, national chains buying out more local institutions, etc.)

I was just getting over my fear of spiders, but then I got a bite on my right forearm that swelled up and both hurts and itches. There's an area of about 2 square inches that turned red. It had to have been a spider.

I have a deal with all the bugs in my house:

If you fuck with me, bite me, eat my food or spread disease, you die.

If you eat other bugs, sit on the wall and look gross, or don't generally cause trouble, then I leave you alone.

If you're an ant, then I get to watch you run around.

All spiders have blanket amnesty, since they eat other bugs that I don't like.

I am very afraid of sharks. I'm talking Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, anything larger then an olympic sized pool...

I'm afraid of the monsters that live in my crawlspace and attic. That's why I refuse to go into either area.

I'm also afraid of that glaucoma test at the eye doctor. You know the test - it's the one where they force that puff of air into your eye. Shooting anything into my eye on purpose is just stupid.

The Art of Noise video from years ago with that scary little girl.

Yeesh.

You know the test - it's the one where they force that puff of air into your eye.

Oh so true, that's the worst. Wondering when the doc's going to push the button....shudders.....

and it's all "hold your eye open!" a lot of times i blink right then, which at least makes me happy i have good eye-closing reflexes.

however, i love a good thunder/lightning storm.

who's afraid of the art of noise?
get it?
Anyway, that "Close to the Edit" video is one of my favorite all-time vids!!! I watch it on youtube at least once a month.

TIP: If you're afraid of spiders, do yourself a favor and DO NOT ENTER the LSD underpass @ Waveland. The girlfriend and Guest went through last night and there were probably a hundred big nasties in their webs, looking down at passers by. Disgusting.
