Who cares - it's hockey, and even worse, it's William Wirtz hockey.

Walrus, who inexplicably appears to like the sport, correctly notes that the regular season is an almost meaningless exercise, and the playoffs go into June. Thus, a preseason is absurd.

So let's recap - the season'e endless and for the most part pointless, you can't watch it on TV in Chicago, and they can cancel an entire year without much of anyone knowing or caring. Best thing is to ignore the NHL and just let it die a natural death.

October? Don't you mean April?

Other than college football, hockey is my favorite sport to watch, but if over half the teams make the playoffs, it means they end up playing an 82 game preseason, which is possibly the most boring thing on TV besides C-SPAN.

Really, all you have to do is finish with a close-to-winning record and you're in. 82 games for that?

so, um if mark cuban isn't allowed to buy the cubs, can he buy the blackhawks? can anyone buy them? pleaseeeee?

by the way, i've looked at the hawks' schedule for this year and unless i get a free ticket from someone, there's little reason for me to put more money in wirtz's pockets -- no bruins, no rangers, no islanders, no maple leafs, no canadiens -- what's the point? and by the way, the cannucks' new sweaters look better than anyone's.

Did you know the Blackhawks raised ticket prices this year? Apparently in spite of a nearly empty United Center and sub .500 team last year, they figure raising prices will boost tix sales!

By this logic, Chicagoist should start charging $1.00 per post. You would definitely see an increase in site traffic.

Hockey is lame. But not as lame as those guys look in the flip-flops and Crocs. Better watch out for an escalator.

It is important to remember that Chicago actually has a hockey team that knows how to play: Go Wolves!
