This is Nuke LaLoosh (every day I swear I won't read Chicagoist again, and yet here I am again):

Spook speaks truth about Weller: the Congressman is a scumbag's scumbag. No question. Good riddance; you can't leave soon enough.

Also, I'll just say it -- Guest 4 made a silly, meritless, generally uninformed comment. Even if Flannery and CHG got in Weller's face, that's exactly what I want in a reporter. Reporters are the proxy for us citizens when they ask those questions that "bother people;" I want them to "bother" Congressmen with shady ties to murderous dictators. Come on Chicagoist readers, think before you post something silly.

Also, Spook -- a bone to pick with you, good sir. I am simpatico with a lot of your politics and always interested to read your posts here and at GB, but please don't play the "he's not [insert stereotypcial skin color of a particular ethnicity] enough" game with Carlos Hernandez-Gomez.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I get your criticism to a point, but I think you are being unfair.

Carlos is a good reporter. I have listened to him a lot when he's on the air and have chatted with him more than once off the air and found him to be very smart and very perceptive.

Like most political beat writers, he tries to keep his personal POV, which is savvy, well-informed, and somewhat cynical, out of his professional reporting. Yes, that takes the edge out, and he doesn't report from an identity-politics PoV, but that is because he is trying to meet his definition of a fair-minded reporter. I think he does pretty well.

Also, just as a factcheck/FYI, CH-G has not been a regular on WBEZ in almost 2 years -- he's been on the CLTV team for some time. While he's occasionally on the reporters roundtable at the end of the month/end of the week on WBEZ/WTTW, he's not part of the WBEZ newsroom.

Navin -- I have the same thoughts regarding Flannery's facial hair.

Awwwww....
If Weller and his wife have kids they'll have one cuddly old grandpa!

José Efraín Ríos Montt (born June 16, 1926) is a former de facto President of Guatemala, army general, and former president of Congress. In the 2003 presidential elections, he unsuccessfully ran as the candidate of the ruling Guatemalan Republican Front (FRG).

Huehuetenango-born Ríos Montt remains one of the most controversial figures in Guatemala. Two Truth Commissions, one sponsored by the Roman Catholic Church and the other conducted by the government as part of the 1996 Peace Accords, documented widespread human rights abuses committed by Ríos Montt's military regime, including widespread massacres, rape, torture, and acts of genocide against the indigenous population. Supporters claim that he had to rule with an iron hand because the country was becoming unstable due to the civil war. Ríos Montt has, at times, had close ties to the United States who gave him aid to fight against left-wing guerrillas.

Ríos Montt is best known outside Guatemala for heading a military regime (1982–1983) that was responsible in some of the worst atrocities of Guatemala's 36-year civil war. The war ended with a peace treaty in 1996. The civil war pitted left-wing rebel groups against the army, with huge numbers of Mayan campesinos caught in the crossfire. At least 200,000 Guatemalans were killed during the conflict, making it one of Latin America's most violent wars in modern history.

Indigenous Mayans suffered greatly under his rule, and it is documented that his government deliberately targeted thousands of them since many of them in the countryside were suspected of harboring sympathies for the guerrilla movement. The UN-backed official Truth Commission (the Historical Clarification Commission) sustains that this was a campaign of deliberate genocide against the population

Oh and Flannery, I like ya' but just cut those last strands of remaining hair...geez...

Even by Congressional standards, Weller is one of the worst forms of human life. And I'm pissed that he is able to ride into the sun set with out having been outted. Some how I bet he continues his long distance marriage to his "wife"

Yea guest 1 WBEZ always manages to get the most whitest colored people. "Carlos Henandez Gomez", invited and one of the most sought after minority figures to fill ethnic quotas at lake front liberal cocktail parties.

He's 100 perfect safe and none controversial. I’m sure he is the only one who wears a name tag to show his "pride”, yet after a few sangrias
becomes even more “ethnic” when handed a guitar to entertain the host's guest with Latino Folk songs from the hills. I listen to WBEZ but they will never get a dime from me
