I like the bit about La Esmeralda winning prizes at competitions, top honors at four consecutive “Rainforest Alliance” sustainability competitions. So it's high quality, gets a good price and is also easy on the environment.

The only time I'll probably have this coffee will be at the tasting.

I've heard it'll be available from the Clover at Mill Park at some point, too.

If you have to "justify" spending $200 US on anything, you probably aren't the market for this product, are you? And if $200 is a lot of money to someone, they shouldn't be spending it on coffee beans, that's for damn sure.$200 isn't necessarily "a lot of money" to me, it's just that I doubt these beans are literally 10-15x better than what I consider to be some of the best/tastiest beans from Intelligentsia or Metropolis which come in between $12/lb and $20/lb. I just want to know my money is well-spent, and in this case the price:quality ratio seems skewed. I did sign up for that tasting though, so I hope to be proven wrong!

Yeah, Jim. I might not make it out of the tasting alive.

At these prices, this coffee should do everything promised in Tom Waits' "Step Right Up."

What did you and Doug (Zell, Intelligentsia founder and owner) think after you realized you paid $130,000 for 100 pounds of coffee?100lbs @ $130/lb. = $13,000.

I'd pay good money for a cup of this, and I love good coffee, but I don't think I could justify either to myself (or my wife) paying $198 for a full pound when I'm perfectly satisfied with my $12/lb. Metropolis and/or Intelligentsia beans.
