Who Are Your Picks for the Final Four?

March madness is six long, cold months away. Thanks to The Burrito Bracket things aren't looking so bleak. The blog combines two of Chicagoist's favorite things — eating Mexican food and bracketology — into one, excellent idea; a 19-contender tournament-style competition to determine the best burrito in the Wicker Park area.

2007_10_burritobracket.jpgBurrito Bracket's top three seeds won't surprise a seasoned consumer of Wicker Park burritos; La Pasadita, Tecalitlan and El Taco Veloz earned the top three seeds. Some restaurants' dreams of a Cinderella-style trip to the ball have already ended. Chipotle, Flash Taco, Lazo's and Taqueria Traspadada have already bowed out. The full bracket is here.

With 19 places to evaluate, Burrito Bracket has some intense eating in store. Though we think it would have made sense to eat the same thing at each place (al pastor or carne asada would have been good options), instead each match-up features the same dish. Recent items featured include torta de milanesa, chicken tacos and chorizo tacos.

For those who like a little betting with their eating, Burrito Bracket has provided Vegas odds. Also, make sure to check out former Chicagoist writer Margaret Hicks' search for the best salad in Merchandise Mart, as well as the Chicago Burger Project.

You know you're dealing with some folks who don't know jack about Mexican food when the mediocre (at best) Tecalitlan gets 3rd place for best Mexican.
