I have to say, I remain in awe at how skillfully Daley manages to distance himself from crap--police torture, Hired Truck-related stuff, CTA, the fragile state of city finances, the ongoing joke that is Chicago public-school education--yet is able to persuade people that he is the sole reason Chicago more or less rebounded from some 25 years of relative squalor. I hate the guy--I mean, I really hate the guy about as much as I hate Dubya--but I must admit he has this cynical brilliance that few other politicians enjoy. I guess he just knows that enough people in Chicago are such ignorant sheep--or on the city payroll--that he can get away with it.

Mayor Daley refused to contradict Georges's position on keeping the list secret, saying "She is a lawyer. I'm not the lawyer for the city." "I mean, really, I'm supposed to know what people that take marching orders from me are doing? Come on!"
