Yes, Obama was initially responding to a question posed to him in a television interview, but then it was his choice to bring it up again in front of the crowd at a rally the next day. He should have just let it drop.

No one has to wear a little flag pin. In some ways it is as fake as all the douche-bags wearing the yellow LiveStrong bracelets. If you are patriotic, show it with your actions, not some dollar pin. If you care about cancer show it with your actions, not some dollar rubber bracelet. That said it is utterly pretentious for Obama to bring it up. It is like the guy who goes on and on about how he doesn't own a TV, as if that makes him better than everyone else.
