It will get interesting if Cuban is the highest bidder, or if anyone bids higher than the Canning group. MLB is very worried about being labeled a trust by the government. not approving the highest bidder would go along way towards proving they are a trust which would be bad. I'd still rather see the guy who owns the Wolves or Pink Hat and his lawyer buddy buy the team.

Cuban would be good for the team, and would do whatever it takes to help them win.

The Canning group is full of too many chiefs and not enough little indians. There wouldn't be much difference between them and Trib. Especially since his Madison-Dearborn group is full of ex-Trib execs.

The offense lost this series for the Cubs, plain and simple. I hope to God that Lou doesn't think about taking out Z too early all off-season because that has nothing to do with it.

As for Cuban...I don't necessarily think I want him as an owner. The Mavericks still haven't won a title and he dumped Steve Nash, probably the best player in the NBA right now. I do think it's very shady that Bud Selig is trying to get his guy to buy the Cubs. B/c then he'll have sway over that guy. I know the Canning group includes a lot of Chicagoans and hardcore Cubs fans, so I don't feel that bad about it. But it does feel like Selig will try to rein in a lot of spending by the Canning group.

But, say Cuban offers more money than Canning, but MLB approves the sale to Canning, couldn't the shareholders of the Tribune, Co. file a lawsuit against the owners for a loss of profit?

Why do people still act as though keeping Zambrano is would have won the game?

Keeping him in wouldn't have made the Cubs batters any better.

Also - IT WAS ONLY ONE GAME! Any good team can come back and win the next game, etc.

Excuses. Excuses. Excuses.

OK, I want to ask this because I would like it documented.

The Tribune is a publically owned company. Mark Cuban has a lot of money, probably more than the Selig-backed candidate Canning (or whatever his name is). If Mark Cuban offers a billion dollars to buy the Cubs, Wrigley, the share of WGN, yadda yadda yadda, and Canning can only offer 750 million; isn't the Tribune Co. legally obligated to take the larger offer? Wouldn't it have just perpetrated a crime against its shareholders? And if they do sell it to Mark Cuban, who is Bud Selig to refuse? It was a sale between two consenting entities. Would Selig refuse to allow the Cubs into the MLB next year?

I almost feel bad for Cubs fans (apathy is still my predominant feeling towards them...), but they got beat by a better team.

I think Rachelle was talking about the Red Sox this postseason in her comment. I'm a die-hard ChiSox fan, but I don't like the team's chances anytime soon against the Tigers, Twins, and Indians.

What, the playoff series or you finally getting around to posting this?

ZING!

This is a great article about why the Cubs loss to the D'backs was a good thing. It's written by two Cubs fans and it's a darn fine read.

In terms of Rachelle's comment about betting on the Sox: as a Sox fan, I'd love to see the Sox go all the way in '08. But do I think it will happen? It's too early to tell. I'd say the Sox have a shot at the Central, but Cleveland is going to be strong again, too.

Any idiot that thought they were going to go all the way, tuned into the Cubs 2 weeks ago. The rest of us are just glad they won the division. If they couldn't do it in 2003, with that pitching rotation, they weren't going to do it this year. Fair weather fans can burn in hell.

"what team are people betting on to win it all?"
The Rockies. Those bastards are on a mission from God.

That game Saturday night was painful to watch. The two teams combined for 43 players left on base. That has to be close to a playoff record.

But this really tells you all you need to know:

GIDP: Theriot; Ramirez; DeRosa; Lee.
