I think the JROTC in the schools is a good thing. I know there's a lot of criticism about the military targeting minorities, but if you stop watching Fahrenheit 9/11 and look at the percentages of ethnicities that make up the military, you'll quickly realize all that is pure bullshit.
I've been to south side schools, some places that, as a relative of mine so eloquently put, are places "where white folks dare to tread."
JROTC in those schools really helps those kids out. It gives them a sense of pride and purpose. And they respect and look up to those old retired military vets who offer them a role model that they might not have elsewhere.

perhaps if certain folks read other sources than the Red Eye and the sports section of the suntimes that some one leaves behind on the train
they would "quickly realize" that starting with the stupid war we started in Vietnam, ( where minorities over represented) America has targeted minorities hard and of course along with poor white folks. Only with this fiasco that equates to a sucking sound of American lives down the drain and a Cha- chang$ sound for the Bush crime family,has minority recruitment fell to an all time low and I say about time.
Save the ROTC and focus on getting poor folks on the southhside into college!
