The wait for brunch at Milk & Honey is going to be longer than usual for the next two-plus months. The lovable dodo is closing its current location at 953 N. Damen on Oct. 28 and moving down the street to 2003 W. Fulton. Their goal is to re-open by early 2008.
For fans of dodo and its "breakunch," this is a good thing. Without AC, dodo was stifling in the summer, and we had breakfasts there where the power went out several times in a single meal due to the faulty/old wiring of the building. The new space will be larger, seating about 50-60 people inside and 30-40 outside, according to dodo's WIlliam Kester. The new digs should "create a more conducive, functioning, operational dodo," something we are completely in favor of, especially if it means we can get a breakunwich with avocado and tomato a little faster (breakunwich = delicious panini with scrambled eggs, melted cheese, and your choice of fillings).
Kester says the new location will begin as BYOB, but that they plan on applying for a liquor license, "mostly for dinner/after work crowds." Which brings us to our last point; the move also means the return of dodo dinner, something we tried, and were disappointed to hear didn't stick. "We are hoping to bring chef Jeremy Brewington back sometime in the summer," Kester wrote us, "and start dinner back up after a few months of fine tuning the breakfast and lunch."

Wow, 2003 W. Fulton is kind of out-of-the-way for most Wicker Park / East Village / Ukrainian Village residents - who I'm sure are the largest clientele of Dodo. A lot of people would feel like that new location isn't a walking distance.
Not to mention that the Kinzie Corridor is rather industrial, empty, and unwelcoming at night (even if some of our favorite local businesses are based there).
I hope they're not moving down the street the same way that HUE moved down the street .... they never reopened!
Also, Kinzie is junk! Try biking down it once. Terrible.
I hope I can still park my giant BMW sport utility vehicle right outside M&H in spite of potentially longer lines.
Even though I live two blocks away, I despise walking there. Plus, I don't want to have to go home to make my weekly J Crew run after I am done.
Rachelle, really? I live at Superior and Damen and bike south on Damen a LOT. I don't run into any trouble until I get to that large overpass that appears just south of the UIC area, before you hit 18th. It's total blackness, even in broad daylight, and there's absolutely no room for a bike and a car to share the road.
Anyway, point being: I'm happy dodo is moving to a bigger space because waiting 45 min for brunch is balls. Fulton isn't far away from WP/UKV at all, and if it deters a handful of people from venturing out of their "safe zone" (i.e. south of Chicago Ave.), then more dodo for me!
That "viadock" at Damen and 16th is deadly. Even with lights on my bike I don't feel safe.
And I disagree somewhat with those concerned about dodo's new location. It may be out of the way of the "safe zone" that Sarah mentioned, but there are new homeowners down there who are craving for places like dodo to open within walking distance.
i wasnt talking about damen, i was talking about kinzie.
FYI, the Kinzie Industrial Corridor comprises much more than just Kinzie Street. Fulton is smack-dab in the middle of this "Planned Manufacturing District".
I only issue concern about dodo's new location because it's not a bustling residential/nightlife/shopping/etc. area in the same way its current Damen Ave. location is. I just can't imagine they'll get the same amount of foot traffic they're used to, especially at night. But I hope to be proven wrong!
right. i guess i just have kinzie st in my head bc i was just riding on it the other day. usually i'm only in it in the river north area, but this time i was farther west... and it was crap.
Well you can take Damen as a direct bike route to nu dodo, bike lane and all!
the chef jeremy brewington roooooooooooooooooooocks
does anybody know where he works now? i want to eat that kind of food again
SOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD!
