Although we aren't as vocal about it as when we were new to Chicagoist, we still love living in Bridgeport and still consider not moving down here sooner one of our greatest regrets as an adult. An increasing number of artists are starting to call Bridgeport their home base, lured by plentiful space, affordable rents and a welcoming community of artists who have been living down here for years.
As part of Chicago Artists Month, tomorrow's Bridgeport Art Walk brings together the well-known spaces (the Zhou B Center, mn Gallery, South Branch Studios, and 32nd & Urban) with newer galleries and artists spaces on a self-guided, at-your-pace walk throughout the neighborhood. You might even find us checking out the new places with Emmy the stereotype-busting pitbull.
The walk runs from noon-5 p.m. If you find yourself down in these parts, make sure to have a copy of our neighborhood eating and drinking guides with you.

Friday Afternoon Diversion

Bummer, I cannot make that! But that reminds me, I need to pick up a painting I bought at 32nd & Urban!!! They are cool gallery owners, showing off some of Chicago's best young talent in many mediums and focusing on the ever-evolving streetart-meets-gallery movement.
And there's no excuse for me to have not visited 32nd & Urban, seeing as I live four blocks away from the space. From what I've seen on the outside, they're excellent curators.
IMO, mn Gallery is one of the great unheralded galleries in the city. They always curate wonderfully inventive exhibits and were fighting the good fight for art in this neighborhood for years. Visiting mn also gives me a great excuse to stop by the Ramova Grill for a bowl of chili.
