Empty Out Your Wallet: Billy Joel, Duran Duran, three Umphrey's McGee shows and more!

2007_10_joel.jpgWe just *had* to keep the subject from our Jam update email as the title of this post, it's just too priceless. We have a sneaking suspicion that unless you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, most of you will be spending your dough on costumes and candy-themed adult beverages this weekend.

Just in case:

Billy Joel conjures memories of our moms' frequent house cleaning frenzies, and if we complained about "We Didn't Start the Fire" interrupting whatever rerun of My So-Called Life we were trying to watch in the basement, she'd vehemently attest that "Billy helps the work go by so much faster!" Treat Mom to a break from the mop and take her to see Chuck Klosterman's mortal enemy in a holiday-season performance - where else but the 'burbs?
Sears Centre, December 1, 8:30 p.m., $51.50 - $97.00

Really, what can you say about Duran Duran? The soundtrack to so many Generation X makeout moments can't be wrong, and this time-tested British quartet of pre-mall punk angular haircuts brings their classic guitar pop to the lovely Chicago Theater just in time for Christmas.
Chicago Theater, December 14, 7:30 p.m., $47.50-$82.50

It's just so easy to hate on Umphrey's McGee...the bastions of prep-school hippiedom everywhere will be polluting Uptown with a sea of North Face jackets and Carhartt pants for three (count 'em - THREE) nights at the Aragon over New Year's weekend. With no parking lot to hang out in, there's no word yet on where the veggie burrito sellers will set up shop.
The Aragon, December 29, 30, 31, 6:00 p.m., $30
