We just *had* to keep the subject from our Jam update email as the title of this post, it's just too priceless. We have a sneaking suspicion that unless you have cash burning a hole in your pocket, most of you will be spending your dough on costumes and candy-themed adult beverages this weekend.
Just in case:
Billy Joel conjures memories of our moms' frequent house cleaning frenzies, and if we complained about "We Didn't Start the Fire" interrupting whatever rerun of My So-Called Life we were trying to watch in the basement, she'd vehemently attest that "Billy helps the work go by so much faster!" Treat Mom to a break from the mop and take her to see Chuck Klosterman's mortal enemy in a holiday-season performance - where else but the 'burbs?
Sears Centre, December 1, 8:30 p.m., $51.50 - $97.00
Really, what can you say about Duran Duran? The soundtrack to so many Generation X makeout moments can't be wrong, and this time-tested British quartet of pre-mall punk angular haircuts brings their classic guitar pop to the lovely Chicago Theater just in time for Christmas.
Chicago Theater, December 14, 7:30 p.m., $47.50-$82.50
It's just so easy to hate on Umphrey's McGee...the bastions of prep-school hippiedom everywhere will be polluting Uptown with a sea of North Face jackets and Carhartt pants for three (count 'em - THREE) nights at the Aragon over New Year's weekend. With no parking lot to hang out in, there's no word yet on where the veggie burrito sellers will set up shop.
The Aragon, December 29, 30, 31, 6:00 p.m., $30

Why Tortoise, WHY????
Why must you open for a noodling jam band???
WHY??????
Wow, you guys suck.
Duran Duran is teh allsomest!!! Glad I don't have to rely on you guys for musical suggestions. I hear New Order is planning a comeback tour too!!
I'm curious what stereotyped fan you think will be at those shows? Because that's what matters when writing about bands, what type of fans they may or may not have, not at all their music.
god forbid you say something nice about Umphrey's. This year they will sell out all three nights at the Aragon, like they did the year before. You should mention that the shoe gazers' favorite band (Chicago's own) Tortoise is opening on the 30th. Like OMG!!! what will all the hipsters do when they clash with the Umphrey's hippies!!!
Have you ever been to an Umphrey's show? I have never seen a gathering in a parking lot, nor have I seen a burrito, let alone a veggie one.
Again, you guys suck.
PS - Check out the latest RollingStone - Umphrey's latest live album "Live at the Murat" got 4 stars, bitches.
I like, totally rely on Rolling Stone for my music barometer.
Bitches.
I like, totally rely on the Chicagoist.
I, like, totally rely on those who use hole/whole properly.

Registered Guest, FTW.
Just saw this. My God Lizz K, do you even know who David Fricke is?
Oh that's right, screw Rolling Stone, what could they possibly know?
Yawn, go write for Pitchfork.
There's nothin' better than a barrage of little snarky comments that contributes nothing to the world of music. So clever. So new millenium. So in your face.
