Weekend News Round-Up

This is the final week for the CTA as we know it, unless state funding kicks in. To highlight the upcoming doomsdsay, the CTA put on a quite a little show.

There's a Wicca school in Rossville, and boy are some close-minded residents not thrilled. Quoth a local youth pastor, "The school closed. This is a popular place for meth. We're like, 'Great, now a witch school.'" Yeah, meth and witches. Totally comparable.

The new president of IIT "isn't looking to turn the school into the University of Wisconsin. But he would like to see a vibrant community sprout near campus."

Want to surf ye olde intarwebs from a rest stop? Keep dreaming. No companies put in bids to provide wifi at Illinois rest stops.

Around 5,000 gathered Saturday for a march to protest the war in Iraq.

At least 13 horses died or were put to sleep this weekend when a semitrailer truck carrying 59 horses flipped over on Saturday. The truck was a double-decker designed to carry pigs and cattle, not horses.

I'm curious if the comment about the University of Wisconsin came directly from IIT president John Anderson, or whether it was inserted by the reporter...

What the hell is happening with Springfield and the CTA. They got to get that shit locked down.

mojowen,

Sadly, it still looks like absolutely nothing is happening in Springfield regarding the CTA...

Nothing is going to happen with the CTA until a few days after the service cuts when the riders are up in arms. Blago E. Jones Madigan are all at war and the CTA is screwed.

Maybe the CTA wouldn't be in such a budget crisis if they quit doing dumb shit like the above. Gawd.
