Today the Reader is holding a book swap. At the Cubby Bear.
We think books should be, in a way, like toys. There are the collectible kinds and the kind meant to be played with and read over and over again until they are too well-loved to live. Then there's the kind you like for a while but ultimately don't need to keep forever and ever; this is when it's time to heed mom's advice and '"let someone else have a turn."
And while we think books should die from too many dog-eared pages and too-far-stretched spines, they should probably not meet their demise from too much spilled beer at a sports bar.
The fun starts at 5:30pm. You can bring and take up to 15 books, and the first 300 people get totebags. Because nothing says literature and totebags like the Cubby Bear.

Weekend Diversion: Night Of The Ponies

Screw that,I'm not swaping my books.
Doh, I wish I'd known about this before today, but as I won't have time to go home and get books before 9pm. Oh well. I guess I should check out the reader more often, since chicagoist LOVES to post shit the day of.
Oh, heaven forbid anyone who would step into a Sports Bar would dare to open up a book.
Perhaps you'd like to write a story for the Tribune, called "Readin' 101 -- Books for the Sports Guy." Sheesh.
been hecht: I just don't see why you would go to a sports bar to read a book. You go to a sports bar to watch sports; it's just not a condusive atmosphere for reading.
