A freshman at Corliss High School on the South Side says his school's security guards assualted him--and a student has the incident on tape. According to the Sun-Times, the tape shows an officer wrapping his arm around the student's neck and pining him to the floor.

RIP, Betsy the harbor seal. The 36-year-old resident of the Lincoln Park Zoo was quite old for a harbor seal.

The City Council's finance committee approved the Mayor's updated tax plan, which still raises taxes $276.8 million. Take a deep breath and file this as a memory to recall on election day. On a semirelated note, those really are some god-awful signs.

Dozens of protesters called on Blagojevich to get his shit together and fix transit funding. The Governor sent a letter to legislative leaders saying, "We must all be willing to come together, put past differences aside, and work in good faith." Then he got on his unicorn and galloped to the Marshmallowland where he's the governor of baby giggles.

Four people have been arrested for robbing the AMC River East, and two of them worked there. Ayeeee.

Hey, Shia's mug shot was released, and...it's no Busey. We think he looks adorable. Drunk, scruffy and adorable. Ah, the triple crown.

Of course, the Sun-Times, in its never-ending search for readers, prints another story of someone getting abused by "the man."

Perhaps the young Corliss student mentioned above should have obeyed the directions of his school's security staff. And perhaps his mother should not believe everything her son tells her.

Guess what Brother Word Up,

I kinda agree with you with respect that the Suntimes should find out what kinda kid the boy is first. Because although "the man" has put in place over the years a failed educational system that teaches more violence than education, nothing will change unless the community “wakes up”.

The reality is that kids are walking the halls of CPS with a "get rich or die trying" gangster mentality. Yea I can explain the origins intellectually and socially, but this means nothing to the few kids trying to actually learn
while being terrorized. I’m interested in hearing what Tamika’s( his mothers) roll is as a parent at that school. Is she involved only now that this sorry situation occured down?
I’d feel a lot more sympathetic if inner city parents told the truth about their kids and then explained how hard it is being a single parent in the inner city with no resources, instead of just saying “he’s a good kid and didn't do it” when they know he’s causing/caused trouble.

Now Word-Up I look forward to your response at the next instance of police wrong doing and according to Sneed, it looks like its coming soon
