Mayor Daley had some harsh words for Back of the Yards residents yesterday at a peace rally where community members gathered to mourn Leticia Barrera's death and protest neighborhood violence. Barrera, four months pregnant, was shot and killed outside her home on Halloween. Police say she was caught in gang gunfire.
Daley told everyone, "You know who did it. Don't be blaming the police. Look in the mirror and say, 'I can do better.' ...If you don't turn these individuals in, you'll be marching [against violence] for the rest of your life."
In a neighborhood plagued by gang violence, cooperation with the police probably isn't as straight-forward as the Mayor would like.

Now if only Daley would stop blaming the newspapers for pointing out problems in his administration and say to himself "I can do better." What a tool!
"In a neighborhood plagued by gang violence, cooperation with the police probably isn't as straight-forward as the Mayor would like."
True.
But it also is true that these neighborhoods could improve if at least a few brave citizens started to come forward on matters like this; so much can come from the brave actions of a few.
Or, perhaps, more parents should act as actual parents.
Maybe Daley could start pointing out the criminals in his administration. heres a mirror Mr. mayor.
So what would you all have done? Excuse the people who shot the poor woman? Whether or not you like Daley, don't go blaming him for stating the obvious. These gangbangers are punks and they should be turned in. Unfortunately, you're all a bunch of cowards, and the kind who hide your cowardice in sympathy for such evil urchins of the street.
Daley's words on the Back of the Yards murders were some of the best he has uttered.
Now, physician, heal thyself.
Ohh, I'm Spook. I hate everythin Daley don utter
