Fed Up, I just can't let this go, IS THAT ALL THAT MAXWELL STREET WAS!?! What about a great place to hear the most amazing blues in Chicago Free?

Or the place for a kid who didn't have Field's Money to get a suite after being fussed over by two (brothers) bonafide Jewish Taylors!

and of course the late night polishs and chops year round, yea I know I got looks for saying with out onions, but that's how a Spook liked it. And the cheap wool socks!

and Daley killed Maxwell Street because nothing lives and dies in this city with out his glance and nod

So do the students at this new school have to take the Prairie State Achievement test (aka the ACT)? I can't see them making AYP as a culinary school. There are all kinds of great things like this that could be done with existing schools if people weren't so obsessed with teaching to the test.

Maxwell street committed suicide. It was a shithole of crime and stolen goods. the maxwell street from the blues brothers was destroyed long before UIC bulldozers arrived

Never feed pigeons. Never listen to NPR--hate it.

I love how you even have a stereotype of "liberals." You wouldn't know a real liberal if one came up to you and pushed a grasshopper down your throat.

UIC killed Maxwell Street.

Agreed Matty, I think they are Vietnamese resturants right off the red line el?

and by the way, the duck I devoured was hanging in a Chinese resturant in China town last Saturday and it was to quote T. Roosevelt, "Deee-light-full"!

But I lose the most points on glossing over the fact that Daley killed Maxwell Street, which yes is now a park,RIP.

But the Maxwell Pawn shop is still on Madison “where Vice Lords be travelin and Chevy windows be rattlin”- quote Common)

Ferdy, for your information I ate crunchy grasshoppers in Thailand and squid cooked on the ground on a dusty street. In Egypt I was invited to a wedding where a cow was slaughtered in front of me and then cut up on a dirty floor (flies a buzz every where) in the room that I drank tea in. later I ate my fair share with no booz to wash it down with because its a Muslim country. When I go to China If dog or rat is offered in a home( they eat both) I will dine on it. Yes I'd rather eat rat than dog( I have a mastiff), but hopefully what ever one I eat, will be prepared extra spicy, but you Madame are a mirror into all that's wrong with liberals, so put that in your WBEZ pledge drive bag and go feed it to the pigeons- which people from other countries eat.

My Cubenhas3, Hi-lar-ious! Happy Tuesday

I've always been interested by that sign on the ground floor of the MCA. Until today, I actually thought the Museum had an outreach program to help the community that met in the theatre. Ah...the curator of the MCA. Speaking of which (and I'm sure this isn't the place to bring this up, but...), has anyone noticed in the permanent collection upstairs, there are works put together made to look like they were done together, but weren't? (Poor description). The black and gray and white tapestries are not done by the same artist; nor is the wooden pyramid thingy on the floor and the pyramidal-shaped work on the wall. Why must the curator be so tricky?

Dog-eating Chinese is, in my opinion, race baiting because who doesn't recoil from the idea in this country. Yes, it happens in China more frequently than other places, but there have been moves to ban it in China and many other cultures eat dog (from "Animal People": http://www.animalpeoplenews.org/99/6/dogmeat.html)

your right, Ferdy the Birdie, gold star for you!
But while I'm an admitted stereo typist, I'm curious to know why you think my first post was a stereo type? Notice how honest I am to admit being one, even though I fail to see how I did this in my previous post, as on Argyle Street, they may not have a dog in the window, but they do have cooked red ducks in the window and dogs are eaten in China and one of the biggest pawn shops is on Maxwell Street and notice I used the term Maxwell as opposed to another term that manages to be controversial.
Perhaps you just being too stereo typically liberal?

I agree with 'why must i'.
not to sound like a bible thumper, but, besides, it totally misses the point of religion. good religion helps us thru all those monday-saturday problems and then the message on sunday is about a different kind of future, after death.

such an easy pot shot is so, 20 years ago.

I guess it is much easier to capture your ironic image that provides backing to your commonplace, shopworn, and not particularly insightful view of modern life if you make the whole thing up yourself.

Typical bass ackward response in the Chicago school system. They HAD one of the best trade schools (including chef program) in the nation, Washburn, and closed it. Now they want to open another one. Idiots.
