Spav1, I know what your thinking But he's still married for christ sakes! And still even if he beats( excuse the pun) the charge, what kinda life are you him and his,( how many kids?) gonna have? I mean he aint got no gun and badge any more! And if he goes to jail, are you gonna stand by the aging jailed cowardly lion? Please, you're young and have your whole life in front of you, don't toss it away.

Spav, I see your point, but even if the defense thinks the guy is crazy, he can still say he moved the barrel. The defense will just accuse him of being crazy, and the jury is free to decide who to believe. Anyway, I think I read a neighbor said he saw people moving a barrel, too. That makes a pretty strong case for the existence of the barrel.

I'm sayin, if that relative tried to kill himself, then he is not going to make the most credible witness. Like, he is psychotic, he made the whole thing up is what the defense will say. If they have a shit witness in crazy relative, then the only way to get "warm barrel" in is to call friend. Which they can't. Because it is hearsay. CASE CLOSED.

Mike - no, the only person who can say he helped him move the barrel was the person who actually did it or saw it happen. Basically, only people who actually witnessed it can testify about it. There's all kinds of exceptions and exemptions to this rule, but none of those are applicable here.

Mike - not to get all law school on you, but hearsay is an out of court statement offered for its truth, which is to say the cops can't go into court and testify that "the relative said he moved a blue barrel." But if the relative testified that he moved the barrel, that's fine. Any other problems are more about the credibility of the statement, as in what was in the barrel. More generally, Peterson's situation is getting worse and worse by the day. I'm not ready to string him up yet, but he is not doing much to help his own cause.

Spay...what exactly is hearsay? if this relative is asked to testify in court and he says he helped Drew move this blue container that was warm to the touch and weighed about 120 pounds, on the night she disappeared, that's a witness. of course all of his testimony is circumstantial, from the moving of the container to the cellphone call, but it can be used in a grand jury and a trial. that's not hearsay, that's witness testimony. hearsay would be the friend of Morphey that went to the cops testifying.

I don't get why he doesn't lug the barrel himself. It's heavy, but not so heavy that he'd need an accomplice. Most adult men could lift 120 pounds. Put it this way: If you killed your wife and stuffed her in a barrel, would you ask for help moving it? But, I am not saying I think he's innocent at all.

P.S. Anything he may have said about alleged blue barrel or what was in it to anyone but the police is hearsay so it can't be brought up in an eventual trial, should one take place.

Maybe the barrel was sitting near a radiator. Or something. There are lots of explanations for this. And if ol boy helped with the disposal, why doesn't he tell the cops where it is?

The whole leaving of his (Drew's) cell phone with the relative, leaving the coffee shop for a while, phone rings and it's "Stacy". Is that the last call Drew received from Stacy? Hmm. That couldn't have happened if Drew had Stacy's cell phone and certainly doesn't sound staged. *rolling eyes* Anyone know if the police/FBI/NSA can get actual messages that have been deleted from cell phones? Give the man some more rope, he seems to be hanging himself.

The guy is guilty as hell. I can't figure out why he asked someone to help him move the barrel though. As a cop you'd think he'd know that's a bad idea. not as bad an idea as killing two of your wives, but still a bad idea.
