Oak Forest Arsonist/Murderer Denied Bail

A tiny bit more information coming out today about Subhas Chander, the Oak Forest man who's been charged with murdering his daughter, grandson and son-in-law. He was ordered held without bail yesterday, and his lawyer says he's suffering from some liver problems.

Prosecutors said that Chander had admitted to lighting the fire, and they said Chander had said his son-in-law was from a lower caste. First Assistant State's Attorney Robert Milan told the judge that "It's pretty clear from the defendant's own statements and other evidence that we have that he did not like his son-in-law at all."

But some of the deceased couple's friends disagree, as does Chander's sister, who told WBBM that "There was no family problem," and claims her brother is innocent. Riiiiight.

I like that, he is old gnarly unemployed dude, living in an suburban apartment, yet he consider's himself in a "higher caste" than some body else, fool!

Spook, "caste" has nothing to do with economic status. It's a blood and family thing. Back in India, he would never live in a mere suburban apartment (although it would be nice if he'd found the experience humbling).

And I wonder if Ms. Lyons understands the dangers of trying a case in the media before anything has gone to trial. While the evidence--such as it is, released by and controlled by police and prosecution--does point to Mr. Chander's guilt, we've seen so much of this stuff go belly-up that it's just poor journalism to editorialize "Riiiiight" to the sister's statement. Can I presume you also would have written the same snark when Riley Fox's father claimed he was innocent? Or the Duke lacrosse team?

Dude,
I know all about the caste system and it still comes down basically to economic status and opportunites based on which one you're born into. I guess I just expect more "get up and go" from a member of the "better caste"
he he he :-) Actually, I'm glade people are starting to wake up to how stupid it is, figures that this Jack A$$ didn't get the memo
and from what I read in the paper he seems pretty guilty

Spook thinks everyone is guilty. I am beginning to suspect that Spook = Nancy Grace

Well, hey, let's just get rid of trials altogether, then. All we need to have a working justice system, apparently, is a bunch of people who can read a newspaper.
