Pumped up about last night's election? Looking forward to voting for your favorite candidate in the February 5 primary here in Illinois? Forgot to register to vote yesterday? It's not too late!
From Wednesday, Jan. 9 to Tuesday, Jan. 22 unregistered voters can go to the Cook County Building at 69 West Washington to register to vote and cast a primary ballot. If you live in Chicago, you need to go to the sixth floor to register. If you live in the suburbs, you need to register on the fifth floor. Registration has its benefits, too. From Monday, January 14 through Thursday January 31 you can vote early (insert obligatory voting often crack here). Early voting polling places are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and any registered voter can participate, provided they show a government-issued photo ID at the polling place.
So don't be a sucker! Get out there and register, darn it. And if you already registered (and we know you did, you smartypants, you), don't forget to vote. That would just be dumb.

Thanks Kevin. I think the county did a terrible job of telling people when to register and how to vote.
Going to register today!
"I think the county did a terrible job of telling people when to register and how to vote."
It is every citizen's duty to stay on top of this. You can't expect people to hold your hand in these matters, even when matters often are needlessly complicated, as is usually the case in Cook County.
Encouraging people to vote—another dead giveaway of Chicagoist's leftist leanings.
Serious question: how do I find out if I'm registered? I filled out the form when I got my driver's license, but I don't remember getting anything else in the mail. Is there somewhere I can do a quick check without having to go downtown?
Bud: You can check at the Chicago Board of Elections site (http://www.chicagoelections.com/).
Thanks Olivia. Turns out I am registered. Good to know!
